Watsi raises first-ever 'philanthropic seed round' from Silicon Valley investors | Crowdfunding for NonProfits | Scoop.it

Watsi is the first charitable organization to raise a traditional seed round. The company provides money to people in need of medical treatment via Crowdfunding"

Ken Dickens's insight:

Watsi’s founder Chase Adam suggests that the process should be called a “philanthropic seed round,” and is a viable model for other fledgling nonprofits. Is this a new model for fundraising? We will see!  -Ken

Alliance Enfants du Monde (World Infant Alliance), AEM is an NGO with the goal of enhancing good education in rural communities across Africa to free people from the bonds of poverty and oppression that make their lives inhuman. Rural Education aims of providing all rural schools with well trained teaching professionals to encourage relevant teaching and learning processes instead of using retirees and secondary school leavers causing truancy and many early school dropout due to their poor and inadequate method of teaching. These teachers will be trained to acquire basic entrepreneurship skill to pioneer development programs in these rural communities for sustainable human development and poverty reduction. our pupils are the future of Africa but how we trained them today determine how serviceable they will for us tomorrow.

How to Get Grants in a Down Economy - The Chronicle of Philanthropy | Crowdfunding for NonProfits | Scoop.it

Companies and foundations are seeking to transform how they work with charities, no longer simply writing checks to good causes, said philanthropy leaders at Friday’s Fundraising Day in New York.

For example, Bank of America now seeks out organizations that help demonstrate it is a sound and caring business, said Andrew Plepler, the bank’s head of global corporate social responsibility in a keynote speech.

Lynn O'Connell for O'Connell Meier's curator insight, February 26, 2:13 AM

Established nonprofits need to embrace and experiment with crowdfunding. Instead of viewing it as a threat, look for ways to incorporate it into their campaigns; test what works, engage their existing supporters and encourage them to reach out to their networks, and run with it. They have many advantages IF they accept the trend and move to get in front of it.

How START.ac Is Adding Innovative Twists to Crowdfunding

How START.ac Is Adding Innovative Twists to Crowdfunding | Crowdfunding for NonProfits | Scoop.it

This is a new entrant to the CrowdFunding world that is worth checking out because it shows what's next in CrowdFunding. Here is an excerpt:

START.ac could very well be a real game changer in the crowdfunding industry and for many good reasons. For starters, as it states on the company’s FAQ page: We enhance the existing CrowdFunding model by extending it to include fundraising for new and existing businesses, technologyproducts, social enterprises, and youth-driven projects all across theworld.

In other words, unlike Kickstarter for example, you can launch fundraising campaigns on START.ac no matter what part of the world you are from. That’s right, people from all across the globe can take advantage of this innovative new crowdfunding platform and this alone really makes the company stand out above the rest.

That’s not all, oh heck we’re barely getting started! There are unique features galore...   -Ken
