The Legson Kayira Community Center & Primary School | Crowdfunded Architecture | Scoop.it
Each and every person has the desire to survive and prosper. To live without suffering, hunger or fear. To envision how your life could be better and then have the means to change it. Yet, each day, one fifth of the world’s inhabitants, cannot fulfill their most basic needs, let alone aspire to accomplish their dreams or desires. https://www.makearchitecturehappen.com/campaigns/legson-kayira-community-center-primary-school/

Woolson Street Urban Garden

Woolson Street Urban Garden | Crowdfunded Architecture | Scoop.it
Will you help us grow peace? We are working to transform a Mattapan vacant lot into “a community garden AND…” that will encourage and enable healthy, active living, and suggest a new future for this neighborhood. A garden AND a place to gather. AND a place to play with kids. AND a place to remember those who died here. AND a place to establish new neighborhood rituals. AND a place to grow peace. This campaign will raise funds for the “AND.” https://www.makearchitecturehappen.com/campaigns/woolson-street-urban-garden/

Crowdfunding Architecture: Not about the Money?

Crowdfunding Architecture: Not about the Money? | Crowdfunded Architecture | Scoop.it
“The secret of crowdfunding is that it’s not about the money,” says Danae Ringelmann, co-founder of Indiegogo in a May 2013 article for Architect Magazine. “The true benefit of crowdfunding is being able to both validate an idea as well as engage a community. People are voting with their dollars. That’s why it’s so powerful for architects. It’s an effective way for them to test ideas for a place and, if successful in crowdfunding it, prove that people want it to come to life.” Simply put, crowdfunding serves as a community vote for design projects. Most projects submitted for funding are not developed designs, but market tests for design teams. This is exactly how the Lowline team used Kickstarter in February of 2012. James Ramsey and Dan Barasch, co-founders of Lowline, used Kickstarter to fund a full-scale model of the technology proposed to create the underground park. This full scale model was to prove that solar lighting technology is a workable solution for photosynthesis in plants. Photosynthesis is needed to sustain plant-life and an essential piece of park life. http://www.makearchitecturehappen.com/blog/crowdfunding-architecture-not-about-money/
