Crowd Funding For Musicians Isn't The Future; It's The Present | Crowd funding in the music industry. | Scoop.it
For some people, at specific moments in their careers, crowd funding can be a piece of the puzzle.
Bryce Austin McCabe's insight:

A great article from one of my favorite sources of news and opinions. It explains how musicians can now put out their own albums without a record label, but instead, with fan and peer support. This article uses real examples and interviews with artists that have used crowd funding. The source is very reliable, and credible. They are known for the fact checking ability and being unbiased.

For those about to crowdfund.... I have a rock and roll band. It's called Black Hi-Lighter. Right now, we're halfway through a rite of passage: the Kickstarter campaign. The first rule of how not to fail at Kickstarter is: Please pledge your support!
Bryce Austin McCabe's insight:

This is a well written article from a pretty knowledgeable contributor to Forbes. He explains different ways people have failed at using Kickstarter, and how people invest too much into aspects of the campaign that aren’t as important as others. The writer gives some good advice to those who plan on starting a Kickstarter campaign.

Careful. Be damn careful… when estimating your Circle of Influence. Maxwell Hughes is a seriously legit musician.  Watch his Kickstarter video because it’s awesome and funny AND check out a little from his other video posts.
Bryce Austin McCabe's insight:

This is an article listing some ways to have a more successful Kickstarter campaign. The author uses an unsuccessful campaign to help illustrate his point. He breaks it down very well and explains how it all depends on who, and how many, people you know. You need to have a strong following or fan foundation to be successful. Don’t rely on other musicians to help spread the word, even if they are willing to help, that doesn’t mean their fans are.

Rosie Flores' Kickstarter campaign for new album from '50s rockabilly heroine Janis Martin* [Updated]

Rosie Flores' Kickstarter campaign for new album from '50s rockabilly heroine Janis Martin* [Updated] | Crowd funding in the music industry. | Scoop.it
Roots rocker Rosie Flores producing new album from 1950s rockabilly heroine Janis Martin.
Bryce Austin McCabe's insight:

This is a really great and inspiring article about a music project funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Rosie Flores is using crowd funding to finish a 1950s rockabilly style album she started with her heroine Janis Martin who passed away in 2007. Even though the style of music doesn’t have a big following anymore, but that isn’t stopping her for shopping the album out to labels who still sell that genre. I think this is a perfect example of crowd funding at it’s best, because it shows how willing people, who share the same interests, are to help others realize their dreams.

Kickstarter is Rocking the Music Industry, 18 shocking statistics - Kick Start your journey | Crowd funding in the music industry. | Scoop.it
This Kickstarter Infographic on the music industry shows how crowdfunding has had a dramatic effect on the music space.
Bryce Austin McCabe's insight:

This atrticle depicts the percentage of successful and unsuccesful Kickstarter projects started by musicians. It's broken down even further, by showing how many people started projects, and the ranges in money they were able to raise. This would be something you would definitely want to consider before starting a Kickstarter project. Only a slight majority of musicians have successfully started projects thanks to Kickstarter, but of the ones that didn’t receive full funding, 81% raised more than 20% of their goal. I think that would be enough in most cases to get a project started.
