More New Androids Than Babies, And Other Surprising Mobile Facts [Infographic]

More New Androids Than Babies, And Other Surprising Mobile Facts [Infographic] | cross pond high tech | Scoop.it

For example, every day more than 1.3 million Android devices are activated — which is way more than the 300,000 babies born daily. Users now spend more time each day surfing the web or on their mobile apps than they do watching television.

There are more than a billion smartphones in use around the world, and age is no barrier — teens, adults and seniors are all well represented among their users.

More than 60% of the apps in the Apple app store have never been downloaded (not even once)

Philippe J DEWOST's insight:

On average, people check their phones 150 times a day... and a few other surprising mobile facts

"Other" content slowly eating up a significant chunk of iDevices available storage on iTunes

"Other" content slowly eating up a significant chunk of iDevices available storage on iTunes | cross pond high tech | Scoop.it

Several iDevices users have reported a steady yet significant inflation of device storage memory taken by "Other" content than Music, Photos, Videos, Apps, Books...

Nobody seems to have a clue of what this "other" space is used for, nor how to bring it down to zero. Documented tricks like shutting down the iPhone, or performing a Save / Restore from iTunes won't let it go, at least on some iDevices including my iPhone and iPad.

More intriguing, such space seems to be growing at each iTunes sync. On the above image you'll see a situation where "Other" now eats almost 1/3 rd of my total available space.

What about you ?

Philippe J DEWOST's insight:

Please check your iTunes config and let me know how much "other" space is taken on your iDevices

On y va, on va essayer. Les meilleurs ingénieurs en logiciel disaient que c'était impossible alors on leur a donné le feu vert. Et ils ont reussi."

Apple supplier Foxconn freezes hiring at largest plant

Apple supplier Foxconn freezes hiring at largest plant | cross pond high tech | Scoop.it

"Due to an unprecedented rate of return of employees following the Chinese New Year holiday compared to years past, our company has decided to temporarily slow down our recruitment process," the company said in a statement.

"This action is not related to any single customer and any speculation to the contrary is false and inaccurate."

Like other Chinese contract manufacturers, Foxconn, the trading name of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, relies on a large number of migrant laborers from across the country who journey home for the most important holiday of the year. Many do not make it back to work, but Foxconn spokesman Louis Woo said this year they saw as many as 97 percent of employees return.

Philippe J DEWOST's insight:

The return rate mentioned by Foxcon is not about iPhones, it is about workers...

Two Charts Spell Out Just How Disappointing Apple's iPhone 5 Sales Really Are | cross pond high tech | Scoop.it

According to Gene Munster, opening weekend sales grew 70 percent between the 3GS and the iPhone 4, and then  an astounding 135 percent between the 4 and the 4s. That's acceleration. iPhone 5 sales,  meanwhile, grew only 25 percent. That's massive deceleration.
