The 13 most innovative schools in the world

The 13 most innovative schools in the world | Technology | Scoop.it

Innovation in education can look like lots of things, like incorporating new technology or teaching methods, going on field trips, rejecting social norms, partnering with the local community. It can be a floating school in an impoverished region, like the one in Lagos, Nigeria. Or it can be a school that's blind to gender, like Egalia, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Thinking and teaching outside the box is happening on a global level.  America does not have the best system.  On a global level we are way behind the curve.  It's up to educators in the US to find better ways to become more innovative in the educational process.

The Future Belongs to the Curious: How Are We Bringing Curiosity Into School?

The Future Belongs to the Curious: How Are We Bringing Curiosity Into School? | Technology | Scoop.it

The only rational answer to the conundrum of curiosity is to disengage our educational system from standardized testing and common curricula. Curiosity does not hold up well under intense expectation. Give agency to teachers, with the explicit message to slow down and provide students time to wonder and be curious.

Maker Education and Social-Emotional Development - User Generated Education @JackieGerstein #makered

Maker Education and Social-Emotional Development - User Generated Education @JackieGerstein #makered | Technology | Scoop.it

"Maker education, when planned around skills acquisition, can enhance social-emotional development.

Self-Awareness: Making in all its forms requires a full range of skills including cognitive, physical, and affective skills. Given this need for multiple and diverse skill set, effective and successful making comes from an accurate assessment of one’s strengths and limitations as well as having optimism and confidence that challenges can be overcome within the making process. Example questions related to self-awareness and making include:

     * What strategies am I using to increase my awareness of my emotions and how they influence my performance during the making-related tasks?

     * What are my strengths given this particular making task?

     * What are my limitations and how can I use my strengths to overcome them? ..."

Getting Started With Periscope In The Classroom - TeachThought

Getting Started With Periscope In The Classroom - TeachThought | Technology | Scoop.it
One of the more exciting apps that has recently made it’s way onto the social media scene is Periscope. Periscope is a live, interactive video streaming  app which allows users to broadcast media and footage while their followers engage in their content at the same time. When used in the classroom, students are able to connect with the world in real-time and interact with any of the content that is made available to them.

One of the ways Periscope can be used to enhance a lesson or unit is with a teacher-directed Periscope. Inviting students to interact in this way now allows for personalizing what is needed from each individual at that very moment. When creating content with a screencast program, teachers must already anticipate the needs of their class. With Periscope, teachers can broadcast content live to their students with the ability to tailor the video on the spot in response to student questions and conversations. Flipping a lesson, re-teaching a strategy, or communicating classroom information all in real-time now gives the teacher the power to easily personalize instruction through the interactivity of this app. Students on the other hand, now have the power to pick the path of their own learning.
