Get Connected: Persuading the world

This issue explores persuasion texts and six important global issues: gender, child labour, refugees, health, inequality and climate change. Students identify the structure and language features of persuasion texts – including posters, cartoons, speeches, and digital and written texts – and learn about major social issues at the same time.

They are also encouraged to create persuasion texts and give expression to informed global citizenship.

The plight of girls around the world makes me sad and very angry. Providing opportunities for our students to think critically about contemporary issues is vital for change in our world. The resources provided by Worldvision online and in print supports us to begin to do this on a range of contemporary issues.

What are the characteristics of small group discussion in my classes?

 

When you take one of my classes, you will observe that we use small groups to generateideas in preparation for a lecture, film etc.; summarize main points in a text or reading; assess levels of skill and understanding; reexamine ideas presented in previous classes; review exams, problems, quizzes, and writing assignments; process learning outcomes at the end of class; compare and contrast theories, issues, and interpretations; solve problems that relate theory to practice; and brainstorm applications of theory to life.
