SEPTEMBER 14, 2012

BARRETT BROWN

Barrett Brown appears to have been arrested on 9/12/12. Our thoughts go out to him and his family. Barrett was video conferencing on tinychat, as he often does, at the time of the raid and a recording of his arrest has been circulating the Internet. The Prison Reform Movement, a solidarity network, claimed on their Twitter this morning to have contacted the Dallas Co. Jail and were informed that Barrett had been released to another agency. AnonyOps, shortly thereafter, confirmed this as well. Although we ourselves have not contacted the jail we consider these sources reliable.

Barrett was scheduled to be in US District Court in Dallas today, 9/13/12, at 2pm CST for arraignment. He was taken into custody, according to criminal law specialist Leiderman Devine, as a direct result of threats made to FBI officer Robert Smith in a series of videos he published on YouTube. According to Barrett’s girlfriend whom was present at the time of the raid, no charges have been filed against Barrett and he has not been allowed bail. Another hearing has been scheduled for the 24th of this month; September. Barrett Brown currently remains in FBI custody.

HOUSTON -- The FBI says an agent's handgun and identification documents have been stolen from her car at a Houston gas station.

The FBI says the burglary happened Wednesday. Authorities are seeking two men seen on security videotape fleeing in a white SUV.

The theft happened as the car was parked and the agent was conducting business at the gas station. Investigators say one man stole the government-issued weapon and ID from the car while the second suspect waited in the getaway vehicle.

Mysterious package delivered to family, 10 minutes later police break down door and ransack home

Mysterious package delivered to family, 10 minutes later police break down door and ransack home | Criminal Justice in America | Scoop.it

A family in Beach Park, Illinois underwent a strange series of events after a mysterious package, allegedly containing marijuana, was delivered to their home.

A mere 10 minutes after the package, which was not actually addressed to anyone in the family, was delivered, police broke down the front door and confronted the family with guns drawn.

Unfortunately, police raiding the wrong home is far from rare although I guess we can be grateful that no one was killed in the botched drug raid which actually never turned up anything illicit.

FBI creating an Illusion of safety

The Government claims its foiled 17 terrorist plots to harm the American people, but when explained in detail of how they went about doing this its clear that they have been creating these plots themselves through entrapment in order to create an illusion of safety. The three real terrorist plots unmentioned by the feds were actually foiled by everyday American citizens.

The U.S. Government has for the first time issued a public list of Guantanamo prisoners cleared for release or transfer, but who remain at the island prison because of difficulties finding a country willing to take them or because of concerns about sending them to their home countries.

The list (posted here) was filed in a series of federal court cases Friday morning and includes the names and serial numbers of 55 detainees. That's almost exactly one-third of the 167 men currently imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.

The legislation (#NDAA) provides far too much power to the government to detain who it pleases, whenever it pleases. These classifications grant the FBI and Department of Justice free rein to practically invent terrorists on the spot. Section 1021 ushers in a new wave of McCarthyism into the 21st century, allowing the government to throw civil liberties out the window in the event of any suspicion, regardless of whether there is any evidence to support it. http://www.centralfloridafuture.com/opinion/ndaa-legislation-negates-civil-rights-1.2765864#.UFuGzoWOo18

All I can say is, YIKES! Although this article is brief and really doesn't give too much information, I find it strange that they will not release the video showing how the woman died while in custody. Everyday we stress that criminals need to take responsibility for their actions, and I think the same thing applies here. If it was an accident, then it was an accident. If there was fowl play involved, there was fowl play involved. Either way, I think that the video should be released and whatever happened should be investigated and addressed.
biggamevince's comment, September 23, 2012 10:53 PM
The use of force was totally unnecessary towards that woman. Was she really resisting that hard vs multiple officers to the point where a leg sweep was used and other "questionable tactics" that resulted in her death? Also the refusal dashboard cam account of the event also raises ire. If she was following the safe have law in the proper manner, why was there a warrant for her arrest? Now it makes some of the citizens weary about relying on civil services for help. If the citizens can’t trust city officials then who can they trust?
