Sweet land of liberty - The main issuse in 2012
By Nat Hentoff
Updated: 04/20/2012 11:59:53 PM PDT

I have no record as a prophet except when, at the end of Barack Obama's first year in office, I reported: "Obama is possibly the most dangerous and destructive president we have ever had" ("America Under Barack Obama: An Interview With Nat Hentoff," John W. Whitehead, rutherford.org, Dec. 11, 2009).

Already, he had begun to place our Fourth Amendment guarantees of personal privacy on life support. He had started to invoke the "state secrets" presidential rule to stop certain lawsuits against his government from even being heard by a judge. (This he did more than his predecessor, George W. Bush.)

NYPD Cop Stabbed In Brain Lucky to Survive - News - POLICE Magazine | Criminal Justice in America | Scoop.it
A New York City police officer's doctor said the officer was "as lucky as you can get," after he was stabbed by a mental patient in the brain and survived.

Officer Eder Loor was stabbed in East Harlem on Tuesday as he and his partner attempted to take emotionally disturbed Terrence Hale to a hospital.

The 3 1/2-inch blade of the wood-handled knife plunged through Loor's skull near his left temple, passed directly behind his eye and barely missed opening an artery that would have killed him, neurosurgeon Dr. Joshua Bederson told the New York Daily News..

First State to Defy the Federal Government, Virginia Nullifies NDAA

First State to Defy the Federal Government, Virginia Nullifies NDAA | Criminal Justice in America | Scoop.it
As reported in the previous article Who are the 399 and Why Should You Care?, the Virginia legislature in February had passed a National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) nullification bill in the initial version of HB1160 by both the House and Senate. However it was not without controversy. Originally the House had voted an overwhelming 96-4 in favor of nullifying the controversial and almost universally agreed as unconstitutional NDAA. If you’re like half of American which has yet to hear about NDAA, it is a law which gives the President sweeping power to detain American citizens deemed as substantial supporters or associated forces of terrorists. That’s not the problematic part. I don’t think anyone wants to see proven national threats running around loose. However this law allows for the apprehension of American citizens to be executed without due process, no charges, no phone call, no day in court and for as long as the government wants without ever having to explain to the media, your mom, your spouse or your kids why you’ve been held in Guantanamo for the last 50 years. Virginia was the first state to move quickly against this new law violating a laundry list of Constitutional rights. In the wake of a landslide approval of HB1160 by the Virginia House the initial Senate vote was a tie but within days thousands upon thousands of Virginians, private citizens and grassroots activists alike inundated the Capital with phone calls and letters. One Virginian I know said that he and many other’s had put their state senators on speed dial! The effort paid off with the next Senate vote yielding 39-1 in favor of the bill.

Virginia’s HB1160 reads as follows, http://cuttingthegordianknot.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/first-state-to-defy-the-federal-government-virginia-nullifies-ndaa/

Undercover FBI Informant Infiltrates Peace Movement

"Published on Apr 13, 2012 by phrygian20
"Karen Sullivan" babysat their kids, chaired their committee meetings, and even balanced their books. All the while, she was working for the FBI and spying on the people that called her friend. On Wednesday the Anti-War Committee which was a target of the FBI raids on September 24, 2010, revealed that FBI informant "Karen Sullivan" had infiltrated the group two-and-a-half years ago. She was involved in most major committee work, had a key to the office (used by the FBI on September 24) and had worked on the financial accounts. Jess Sundin, one of the committees founders and the other people rounded jp in the September 24 raid were outraged at this violation. It is the very type of operation scorned by the Dept.of Justice Inspector General in an October. 2010 report. One of the most egregious actions was her volunteering for fund raising and planning for a trip for peace activists for a trip to a US listed NGO in Palestine. Sullivan even accompanied two people on the trip apparently warning Israeli authorities of the planned visit. Sullivan returned immediately to the US, the other two were detained overnight and interrogated about who they were going to see. The two activists returned to Minneapolis on August 4, 2010. The subpoenas to the Chicago grand jury are still in force and three people may be ordered to Chicago on January 25, the date of a planned national protest about the FBI actions.
