YES !!! (source)

This is a really good time to note that this all began because of the Snyder administration’s long term goal to privatize Michigan’s water system, so that private, for-profit businesses like Nestlé could further profitize clean water, a basic necessity for human life.

Chris Christie has already signed a bill authorizing the privatization of New Jersey’s municipal water system...

Two Big Frauds: I Pretended to Be Pregnant at a Crisis Pregnancy Center

Two Big Frauds: I Pretended to Be Pregnant at a Crisis Pregnancy Center | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it
In reality, however, they’re often the opposite: disseminating misinformation and, in the process, robbing women of their autonomy. And the best worst part of the situation is the fact that plenty of crisis pregnancy centers, in spite of their duplicity, are actually licensed community clinics, which gives them an added air of respectability.

So, in the interest of trying to understand what actually goes on in these inexplicably legal establishments, I decided to go undercover as a preggers patsy.

The Horrifying Women's Rights Injustice That Modern Feminism Forgot | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

The Horrifying Women's Rights Injustice That Modern Feminism Forgot Mic Such an infuriating issue should attract the ire of the feminist community, but so far there are mostly crickets.

Recent legislation regarding the forced sterilizations performed on incarcerated women in California prisons evokes a muted time in U.S. history when sexist, racist, classist and ableist eugenics policies were orchestrated by the state.

The AIDS Granny In Exile

The AIDS Granny In Exile | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

In the ’90s, a gynecologist named Gao Yaojie exposed an AIDS epidemic in rural China and the ensuing government cover-up. Forced to leave, she’s now 85 and living alone in New York.

Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

This is heartbreaking: Both mother and son say the same thing today: Gao is a good doctor, but “maybe not the best mother.”

We don't typically have such sentiments for fathers who dare to do good things for the world.

Illegal Abortions Lead to Women’s Health Crisis in Haiti

Illegal Abortions Lead to Women’s Health Crisis in Haiti | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

After three days of vomiting, heavy bleeding and agonizing pain, she stumbled into a maternity hospital. Doctors rushed her into surgery where they stopped the bleeding, and repaired her perforated uterus, botched in the first abortion attempt...

Abortion is illegal in Haiti but women and girls are losing their uteruses and their lives as they turn to clandestine, increasingly deadly ways to terminate their pregnancies. These unsafe abortions are leading to a public health crisis in a region with one of the world’s highest rates of unintended pregnancies, experts say.

UN Expresses Concern on International Day to End Violence Against Women

UN Expresses Concern on International Day to End Violence Against Women | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

Monday, November 25, is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

...The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS – UNAIDS – says every hour 50 young women become newly infected with HIV. Many of those infections are related to violence.

“Lots of the gender-based violence [is] sexually related. There is a lot of data right now showing that most of the violence against women happens in the context of intimate partner violence – domestic violence. And many times it takes the face of non-consensual sex, which is a polite way to say rape,” said Dr. Mariangela Simao is UNAIDS Director of Rights, Gender, Prevention and Mobilization.

Simao said gender-based violence is strongly linked to HIV/AIDS.

The Men Who Want AIDS—and How It Improved Their Lives

The Men Who Want AIDS—and How It Improved Their Lives | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

For Fortner, the phenomenon of young men deliberately contracting HIV is dispiriting but not surprising. “When you’re on the streets every day — winter, summer, spring, and fall — and you find a way to have an apartment of your own, it looks better,” he says. His own experience is instructive: Once his AIDS was diagnosed, he was astonished at how much easier it was to live in New York City. “Right now the rent for my apartment is $1,150, but because I’m on the program I only pay $217, which leaves me with about $400 a month,” he says. “That’s still a struggle, but I feel gifted, because one way or another I pull through.”

Cecile Richards: I’d say that North Dakota is now the most unsafe state in the nation. Their governor has become the poster child for the most anti-woman [legislation] in the country. He has effectively banned access to safe and legal abortion. The bill is not only outrageous but unconstitutional. As a health-care provider, we know the impact it has on women to no longer have access to legal abortion. Lives are being put in jeopardy.

Kansas bill calls for HIV positive people to be quarantined

Kansas bill calls for HIV positive people to be quarantined | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

A proposed bill in Kansas is calling for people with HIV or AIDS to be quarantined.

Lawmakers are close to passing a new law discriminating against those who have HIV or AIDS, forcing them to be isolated or have their movements restricted.

Kansas House Bill 2183, which has passed in the Kansas Senate, will update the state’s public health statute by allowing quarantine of Kansans with ‘infectious diseases.’

Senator Marci Francisco attempted to restore an amendment providing an exclusion for people living with HIV/AIDS, saying the disease is not spread through casual contact and the bill could permit discrimination.

An analysis of the implementation of PEPFAR’s anti-prostitution pledge and its implications for successful HIV prevention among organizations working with sex workers

An analysis of the implementation of PEPFAR’s anti-prostitution pledge and its implications for successful HIV prevention among organizations working with sex workers | Crimes Against Humanity | Scoop.it

Clearly within policy arenas there are mixed perspectives on the impacts of the PEPFAR restrictions with regards to sex work. However, real world prevention care and treatment of HIV and AIDS for sex workers does not occur in policy arenas but rather on the ground, in venues and avenues far removed from policy discourse. Meanwhile, although policymakers reflect on the intent or the outcome of the pledge, on the ground the policy has and may continue to have consequences. As a result of the pledge, in many instances information sharing about successful programming with sex workers has nearly ceased. Sex work programming has become a taboo topic; organizations that receive other funding are likely to be interested in or to seek US government contracts and funds. Others with specific missions have reigned in all activities unrelated or tangentially related to their missions; this has affected many sex work projects the world over. The anti-prostitution pledge has prevented the sharing of information about successful programming and prevented scaling up successful operations.
