If you don't like the new look, this post by Saqib Khan explains how you can give you G+ page a Pinterest style makeover.
I have not tried it myself but thought it may be of interest especially for those with high resolution screens.

Chas Begley: Another improvement in the service G+ is giving to its users and improving the integration of its services.
In this update Google deepens the integration between G+ and Gmail. It is now possible to directly interact with G+ from a notification email, including giving +1s, making comments and watching realtime updates without leaving Gmail.

Chas Begley: This report analyses the use of Google+ among Interbrand Top 100 brands over the past two quarters and suggests that Google+ is starting to gain some traction with major brands.
The data produced by Simply Measured shows that of the 100 companies 64% now have an active Google+ account with 43% posting three or more times a week. 22% of brands had over 100,000 circler counts.
Of greatest interest was the fact that engagement on Google+ Pages although still lower than on other networks has increased by 112%. This indicates that Google+ may finaly be gaining some real traction with brands.

Chas Begley: Google Plus has just made their Hangouts on Air, available to all their users. Anyone can now live stream a Hangout to an unlimited number of users and effectively braodcast to the world in real time.
This is another exceptional feature that Google has incorporated into Plus. However will it bring more users over to G+ and encourage them to spend time there? That remains to be seen.
