Creating may often include anxiety and other sorts of fear. We need to develop courage and learn how to deal with these feelings to be more fully creative.

One idea from Eric Maisel: “All day long we’re supposed to get things right: pay our bills, pick up our kids, and so on. It is very hard to move from this everyday mindset to a creative mindset where huge mistakes and messes are permitted and even welcomed."

Creating doesn't make us fearful but the exposure of ourself through creations does!

THE WITCH OF BALLYYAHOO I have created a fictional town, Ballyyahoo. You can visit it at www.Ballyyahoo.com My little town is located on the west coast of Ireland and I have written a series of fun stories about the kids who live there. I love the whole idea of witches but I never liked the idea of writing about a creepy witch who does nasty spells and terrifies everyone etc.I also prefer a witch who is fun to be around. So I when I decided to introduce the idea of a witch to my little town I made her friendly, kind and a little eccentric. I also gave her job of fighting crime in Ballyyahoo! My book 'The Witch of Ballyyahoo' is available at http://www.amazon.com/WITCH-BALLYYAHOO-ANOTHER-LITTLE-BOOK-ebook/dp/B00GA58ORK

The Six Things That Make Stories Go Viral Will Amaze, and Maybe Infuriate, You

The Six Things That Make Stories Go Viral Will Amaze, and Maybe Infuriate, You | Creative-writing | Scoop.it

Learn from the successes of others"When Jonah Berger was a graduate student at Stanford, in the early aughts, he would make a habit of reading page A2 of the Wall Street Journal, which included a list of the five most-read and the five most-shared articles of the day. “I’d go down to the library and surreptitiously cut out that page,” he recalls. “I noticed that what was read and what was shared was often different, and I wondered why that would be.” What was it about a piece of content—an article, a picture, a video—that took it from simply interesting to interesting and shareable? What pushes someone not only to read a story but to pass it on?"

Une (petite) leçon à garder en tête pour la diffusion d'information

Jody MacPherson's curator insight, March 10, 5:36 PM

I think this sums up social media quite nicely:

"The irony, of course, is that the more data we mine, and the closer we come to determining a precise calculus of sharing, the less likely it will be for what we know to remain true. "

Welcome to reality.

Figures from world's biggest bookseller trumpeted as sign of how self-publishing and smaller labels are changing the industry
Grace Jolliffe's insight:

Times are changing for all writers. Whether we think this is good or bad probably depends are how well we have fared in the recession.

A lot of us have seen opportunities dwindling in all media, including print, television and radio, yet there has also been an increase in some areas and self-publishing is one of these.

According to a recent article in the Guardian as many as 25% of the top 100 kindle books are from indies.

However, self-publishing isn’t just about writing your story and throwing it up on Amazon. Like anything worth while there is a learning process involved. I have written a series of posts to help you get started.
