Ello: het nieuwe anti-Facebook?

Ello: het nieuwe anti-Facebook? | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Trouw | Amber Dujardin − 30/09/14, 15:46

© Screenshot Ello.

How Levi's Turned A Design Evil Into A Design Signature

How Levi's Turned A Design Evil Into A Design Signature | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Designers and corporate lawyers aren't exactly known for seeing eye to eye, especially when it comes to trademark symbols. What a designer might think of as an unnecessary besmirchment of a beautiful logo, a trademark attorney might consider the most indispensable element.

In the case of the Levi's logo, though, the designers at Turner Duckworth decided to take the necessary evil of a trademark symbol and totally own it, making it an indispensable element of the Levi's logo.

App helps you wake up with a stranger | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

22 September 2014 Last updated at 09:43 BST

Billed as a "social alarm clock", the Wakie app connects you with a global network of strangers, who each have one minute to wake you up.

The app also adds a dating twist by trying to match you with someone of the opposite gender.

With 1.5 million people already using the Russian version of the service, the international update is now vying for a place on our bedside tables.

BBC Click's Stephen Beckett tried out Wakie for a week, and spoke to the app's creator, Hrachik Adjamian, about how it has stopped him from hitting the snooze button.

8 Things Every Design Firm Should Know About Running A Business

8 Things Every Design Firm Should Know About Running A Business | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Almost eight years ago, I sat down with my partner in crime, Gavin Kelly, and we made one of the best decisions of our lives--we started our own design consultancy, Artefact. We were driven by the not so humble ambition to become the best digital design and innovation company in the world. And we think we are on the right path. But starting, running, and growing your own design company has also been a tremendous learning experience. With every achievement comes a new set of challenges to overcome and lessons to learn. In the spirit of transparency, and with hope that by sharing the lessons we have learned we could save fellow designers some frustration, here are eight insights we've gleaned over the years.

The design industry is changing rapidly. There is a ton of business out there, but it has gotten a lot more competitive. Always be ready to adapt.

22 juni 2014

NIKE have designed several new typefaces for teams playing at this year’s FIFA world cup including two collaborations with renowned graphic designers, wim crouwel (netherlands) and neville brody (england).

designboom spoke to stu mcarthur, design director at NIKE football to learn more about about the process…

Niels Biersteker's insight:

Each nation is steeped in its own traditions. Adidas, Nike and Puma -- the three primary uniform outfitters for this year's World Cup field -- must adhere to those traditions, while also incorporating their own aesthetic and design technologies.

To learn more about this, read this interview with Martin Lotti, Nike's creative director for football, and Jennifer Valentine, Adidas' category manager for soccer;

Deadmau5 takes on Disney in a trademark dispute

Deadmau5 takes on Disney in a trademark dispute | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

DJ Deadmau5 is in a legal battle with Disney over his mouse-ears logo which the corporation says is too similar to its Mickey Mouse trademark.

The Canadian artist, who's performed in his mouse helmet for 10 years, tried to register his logo in 2013 with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Disney responded by trying to block the action.

Now Deadmau5 has tweeted "Lawyer up, Mickey," to his three million followers.

The artist, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman and pronounces his stage name as Dead Mouse, then added:

"Disney thinks you might confuse an established electronic musician/performer with a cartoon mouse. That's how stupid they think you are."

The electronic dance music star tells Mickey Mouse creators Disney to

Philippe Apeloig’s Typorama | The Type Directors Club

Philippe Apeloig’s Typorama | The Type Directors Club | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Philippe Apeloig is a graphic designer who loves letters. The new book Typorama makes this wonderfully clear in its 384 pages of designs and sketches by Apeloig, essays, and even the title. The word “typorama” suggests a wide perspective of typographic features, a panorama of Philippe Apeloig’s work.

Typorama presents Apeloig’s poster, publication, and identity designs from the early 1980s to the present. A 1983 design for the Dutch office Total Design is the earliest piece by Apeloig in Typorama, and it reflects Total Design’s modernist design legacy.

Restaurant-goers in France will find symbol on menu that shows which dishes are homemade.

It’s part of a new law meant to battle against the surprising amount of factory-made, prepackaged food in French restaurants, and celebrate the country’s culinary traditions.

How social media is changing art

How social media is changing art | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it
French street artist JR, known for his installations of giant photographs, has just unveiled his largest portrait yet. It will also be the hardest to see in person.

JR wrapped more than 150 shipping containers with black-and-white photos printed on paper and arranged the containers on a freighter. The pictures form an enormous black-and-white image of two eyes that stretches the length of the 1,200-foot vessel. Fans can check out the image first-hand only at stops between the northern French port of Le Havre, from where the freighter set sail Friday, and Malaysia, where it arrives in about a month. The few ports of call include Malta and Tangiers, Morocco.

JR will be documenting the photograph’s voyage—and its deterioration—on his Instagram account;
