This ‘iTunes Of Fonts’ Allows You To Try Fonts For Free Or Rent Them Cheaper

This ‘iTunes Of Fonts’ Allows You To Try Fonts For Free Or Rent Them Cheaper | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Ever wanted a gorgeous font for your project, but you were put off by its expensive cost?

Enter ‘Fontstand’—the “iTunes of the digital font market”.

Created by type designers Andrej Krátky, Peter Biľak, and Ondrej Jób, ‘Fontstand’ allows you to try fonts for free or rent them for just a fraction of the regular price.

Peter Biľak, co-founder of Fontstand, said, “Type designers are great at the production phase of fonts, but now we have created a platform to connect directly with end users. This is important because if we don’t channel money from font licensing back to font designers, there won’t be any new fonts made.”

Find out more about the Mac OS X app here and watch its demo video here.

Six trends by Leo Burnett that influence creative #branding campaigns today

Six trends by Leo Burnett that influence creative #branding campaigns today | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Leo Burnett Worldwide has released the 28th annual predictions on the winners of the 62nd Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity along with the trends that are influencing the creative industry, known as Cannes Predictions. This year’s list of potential winners compiled by the agency’s Chief Creative Officer Mark Tutssel features some of the best brand campaigns of 2014—all of them are listed on Pinterest.

Analyzing these projects, Mr. Tutssel outlines six trends that define modern brand communications today. “The thread that binds this collection is that human purpose sits at the heart of each of these brilliant pieces of work,” said Tutssel. “Whether it’s P&G Always launching a cultural movement or Nike designing an immersive experience, ideas that create real value, fuel our imagination and ignite change in human behaviour will prevail in Cannes.” And these trends are, as follows:

1. More brands take care of human safety.

2. Two-way interactive screens for entertainment and education become popular.

3. Brands show that celebrities are just like us.

4. Touching and emotional human-interest stories win over “storytelling."

5. Breaking stereotypes about gender inequality.

6. Meaningful social behaviour can generate a powerful campaign with zero media budget.

The Internet Freaks Out Over Hillary's Campaign Logo

The Internet Freaks Out Over Hillary's Campaign Logo | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

Hillary Clinton announced her bid for presidency yesterday, and along with it, her campaign revealed its logo: an H with a red arrow pointing right. It's easy to understand what designers liked about the logo. It's an arrow moving forward—a symbol for action and progress. And it grounds a broader design language on her site, where arrows point to fields for her newsletter and making donations. Yet to some armchair critics it was Benghazi all over again.

Take It From an Expert: Design Is More Important Than Ever | WIRED

Take It From an Expert: Design Is More Important Than Ever | WIRED | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

We’ve been saying it for a while and now John Maeda has delivered the data to prove it: Design is more integral to good business than ever before. Maeda himself is further proof of the trend; last year he left his post as president of Rhode Island School of Design to be a design partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

This weekend at SXSW, Maeda presented his inaugural Design in Tech Report, a 39-slide presentation that’s both inspired by Mary Meeker’s widely influential annual Internet Trends reports and a continuation of some of Meeker’s findings. Maeda actually contributed a slide to Meeker’s most recent report titled “R.I.P. Bad User Interfaces.” His presentation is essentially a closer look at why exactly that’s true.

Spotify Unveils A Bold New Brand Identity

Spotify Unveils A Bold New Brand Identity | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

For a brand that fronts such a vast and eclectic array of music—a database of some 30 million songs, including the top tunes in Malta, Bulgaria, and Paraguay, among others—Spotify’s brand identity has always been surprisingly sedate: black, white, and an uninspiring green for colors; an off-the-shelf font; and a little stylized sound wave as a logo.

That made for a fairly dismal array of tools for communicating with the brand’s 60 million avid fans.

On Friday, at South by Southwest, all that will change. For the duration of the festival, Spotify House will be arrayed in a bold and explosively colorful new brand identity, which was the result of a year's worth of work, and many trips to the company’s Stockholm headquarters, by the New York design firm, Collins.

(...)

One of the trickiest issues for the team was how to deal with photography. Since Spotify uses images borrowed from thousands of musical acts, it needed a way to brand a picture so that it looked like something from Spotify even if the company’s logo wasn’t plastered on it.

The answer came from a deep dive into music history, in the duotone photos from album covers and concert posters from the 1960s. That style originated with bands that were trying to find a low-budget way to promote their concerts.

The duotone look became so much a part of the brand identity, that Brett Renfer, Collins’s director of experience design, created a software program (subsequently nicknamed, "The Colorizer") to automate the process—a critical issue for a company like Spotify which has designers across 58 markets, from Andorra to Uruguay, all scrambling to brand content with the Spotify look.

(...)

Niels Biersteker's insight:

I'll bet you a million bucks they were inspired by Sagmeister's Casa de Musica Logo Generator;

Today, social marketing platform Olapic is launching a new ad format that includes images pulled from Instagram, Twitter, Vine or YouTube. The offering is called Predictive Consumer Generated Ads because its technology crawls social media for pictures that are expected to perform the best when sponsored on Facebook.

What Europeans think of each other

What Europeans think of each other | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it
As the table shows, when asked to name the most trustworthy nation, every country voted for Germany except for the Greeks. Instead, they awarded themselves that accolade, while casting Germany as the most arrogant and least compassionate nation. (In the 2012 poll, Greeks considered themselves to be the most hardworking, to general bemusement.) However, this antipathy towards Germany is understandable. As the main paymaster for the euro area, Germany is blamed for the strict austerity measures imposed on Greece as a condition for bailing out the country. These have resulted in a cycle of declining growth, weakening demand and real hardship. Indeed, Germany's economic dominance is reflected in its several nominations as the most arrogant and least compassionate country.

Windowsketch maakt reclamezuil van etalageruit | Creative Feeds | Scoop.it

"We maken slapend glas wakker."
