Making BeBop pouplar from his horn and huge cheeks. he also taught other musicans such as  Miles Davis, Chuck Mangione. Not only did he play the trumpet but also played the pinao and the trombone.

Born on April 29,1899 in Washington D.C the name duke was giving to him by a childhood friend he noticed his impeccable taste in everything. Referred to his music as American music instead of just plan jazz describe those who impressed him ‘’ beyond Category”. Composed thousands songs. He preformed in Broadway nightclubs as the bandleader of a group called sextet. His first band ws callded the Duke Sernaders later called The Washingtonians' formed in 1917.
