How to Manage the Online Reputation of Your Business http://t.co/68vWOxroSI #Advertising #Coquitlam #Vancouver #Marketing #Blog #Business
Luigi Cappel's insight:

People often use blogs to complain these days if they feel they got a raw deal. Do you have a strategic plan on how to protect your reputation. Do you know how to deal with it?

Do you know when to respond and when to leave it for your mavens to respond for you, loyal customers who know you do a good job?

Do you know when to give away free product or services and when the customer just needs a genuine sympathetic ear.

Do you understand what not planning for bad PR can do to your business? Do you track who is talking about you, your company and your products?

At the very least its time to start looking and thinking about it. Above all else, when it does happen, don't get angry and knee jerk your reaction. Once there is a digital footprint it is hard to get away and some of the classic viral stories are when a minor situation goes bad when people over react to them.

Choose blog topics that naturally incorporate these keywords and you're more likely to become identifiable with the areas you want to online. Remember – write for humans, not robots.
Luigi Cappel's insight:

My last blog was for the beginners, this one is a reminder to those who have been active for a while, but perhaps not getting as much traffic as you want.

The fundamentals haven't changed much, I think the main thing that search engines are looking for is integrity. Focus on original content, consistent with keywords, tags etc. Forget about gratuitous back-links from irrelevant pages. Provide what people are looking for, answers to specific questions that are easy to find and understand, based on your target audience.

Business is always about getting the basics right. What isn't?

3 habits of highly effective bloggers
Media Update
“The first key to being a successful blogger is to write. A lot,” writes blogger Annabel Candy on Copyblogger. “The more you write, the better your writing gets.
Luigi Cappel's insight:

You would think it goes without saying, but it doesn't. There are so many bloggers who write 2 or 3 times a month and wonder why they don't have hundreds or thousands of followers. Sorry folks, would you subscribe to a bus that only turns up a couple of times a week? Would you follow a newspaper that randomly publishes the 'news' once in a while when they got around to it.

Also agree it comes down to the mission statement, the raison d'etre.  Why are you blogging and what are you wanting to achieve? Now put yourself in the shoes of the people you want to come an enjoy your offerings.

So if you were the reader, would you feel excited to read your own work? Does it deliver on the mission? Honestly? Would you get out of bed to read it if you were researching more information about your passion? If yes, you could be in very high demand. If no, you might want to go back to that mission. Is it really important to you? If not, why not just go have some fun and read a book, or go for a drive, and come back when you think you are ready to commit. Or don't come back and just think about it as something interesting you tried once.

If you don't have the time to write, or writing is not your thing, use audio podcasting or video and have your content transcribed into blog posts.
Luigi Cappel's insight:

If you read my blogs and articles on blogs you will note some common themes. These themes imho are far more important than worrying about the latest rules to cheat or manage your way around Google and their constantly changing search algorithms.

Every time Google and others change their rules, people scramble to learn how to make sure that they don't lose readers, because they are not managing their keywords correctly, or other elements that Google is looking for.

What Google is actually looking for is consistent, quality writing that is well targeted to an audience. This post doesn't follow all the rules, because like many of my posts recently, I am curating stories, but it is still valid and is a tool to allow me to keep my hand in, sharing good information on the back of other people's stories. On the other hand I am still adding my personal experience and knowledge to the story.

Fundamentally, if you follow these suggestions, write frequently (close to at least daily) with passion and add an original perspective and your subject matter is consistent, you can achieve a whole lot without spending money or bringing in SEO experts. Google will recognize that you are a subject matter expert.

How To Make Good Money By Writing A Blog

How To Make Good Money By Writing A Blog | Creating Great Blogs | Scoop.it
Did you know you can write your own blog to make money online? It’s easy to look at people who have ... (Have you ever wanted to start a blog just for fun?
Luigi Cappel's insight:

Professional journalists maker very little money writing for newspapers and magazines unless they are at the top of their trade, so if you think you can make good money writing your blog, think again.

The same applies to musicians and songwriters, do it because you are passionate about it and seek to constantly improve on your craft. If you are good, then you may make some sort of living and once in a while someone makes a good living most likely for a relatively short period of time.

If you are blogging to sell goods, services or expertise, then your income might come from your promotion and sharing of knowledge that results in sales of something else. If you think you will make 'good money' from blogging simply by following a simple set of instructions, think again. If you don't have the passion and commitment and original information, it simply won't happen.

The bloggers that you see making money work hard for years to become an overnight success and they typically do much more, such as networking, promotion on social media, writing for magazines, presenting at conferences and much more. They are a very rare bunch. I get really frustrated when I see blogs or courses saying follow these simple steps. It took me years just to rise to the top of Google search on What is the best GPS for New Zealand?

If you want to write, because you enjoy writing, because you are prepared to keep honing your craft and people follow you and you can make some money, somehow out of it, fantastic. If you go into it for the money, save yourself some bother now and do something else.

Just my humble opinion of course:)

The Secret Fix That Instantly Improves Your List Posts [Quick Tip] | Creating Great Blogs | Scoop.it
Wonder why your lists posts aren't taking off like you expect? This might be why ... (Writing a list-based blog post?
Luigi Cappel's insight:

It's not really a secret, but certainly worth considering. You do use List Posts don't you? It is proven to be one of the more popular blogging techniques from the perspective of getting reads, particularly when promoted from social media such as Twitter.

The key learning is length of read. Whether you have a long list or a short list, people only have a limited attention span. If you really want to do a list of 25 things and they are really valuable, why not make it 5 blogs of five things and put them into categories. You can always call it part 1 of 5.

Going rustic: mompreneur turns wedding blog into big business CT Post "It was about finding a way to run two things simultaneously in your life; you have to take it upon yourself to say I am going accomplish two blog posts, 10 emails and five phone...
Luigi Cappel's insight:

This is a really good example of the results of doing a good blog and monetizing it. There are a number of different philosophies in blogging and journalism. One common one is write about what you know. In this case it started with her own wedding experience. You can't get more real than following someone through their own wedding and learning from them.

I'm not sure how many other activities have come from it, but obviously her blog has created the opportunity for her to write and sell her own books to those  who follow her blogs and there is an ever growing market of people getting married, which isn't likely to slow down any time soon.

If you have a special interest that you are engaged in and a passion for writing, following a blog like this and reading back to the beginning could be a great place to find out what she did right.
