Kids Sign on for National Novel Writing Month — The Digital Shift

Kids Sign on for National Novel Writing Month — The Digital Shift | Creating a community of readers | Scoop.it

National Novel Writing Month kicks off today. The annual event in which participants pledge to write a novel during the month of November features a Young Writers Program. Resources include a classroom kit, a teacher’s forum, and pep talks.

“We dare you to make your villain write an apology letter to your main character,” is among the challenges set forth by the “Dare Machine,” a fun set of writing prompts. Participants register on the site to set and maintain a word count goal and then, write like the wind.

" (Last year) we were enthusiastic participants in a collaborative push to get as many people as possible to take to Twitter on Oct. 20, the annual National Day on Writing, and post messages with the hashtag #WhyIWrite. It was a thrilling and memorable day for us, as students, teachers, novelists, poets, historians, journalists, comedians and ordinary citizens of all kinds posted thoughts to a vigorous stream.

Along with the National Writing Project and the National Council of Teachers of English, (this year) we invite you (and your students, and everyone else you know) to post on Oct. 19, with the hashtag #WhatIWrite."
