New influence measuring tool: Prollie

New influence measuring tool: Prollie | CPA Learning | Scoop.it

Klout, PeerIndex, Kred... Influence scores have become an essential part of social media.

The problem with those scores is that they are subjective and do not always offer the best pictures of the influencers.

Enter Mike and Red Fabbri's Prollie, a new kind of influence measuring tool.

Via Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com
Rebekah Brown, CPA's insight:

Tool that not only grades your social presence but suggests other users with similar "passions" to follow and connect with... Needs more users to see full benefit though, come on early adopters!

Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com's curator insight, March 9, 2013 6:21 PM

A new influence measuring tool entered the public beta phase this week. Prollie seeks to be different, more focused on the way users leverage social networks.

What do you think? Could Prollie be more relevant than Klout or Kred?

luiy's curator insight, March 28, 2013 7:27 PM

Your score is a letter (e.g., A+, B-, D), rather than a number. It is determined by the way you leverage the social media sites you choose to connect to your profile (currently Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Tumblr, and LinkedIn):

"Each network is unique, with its own proprietary tools and features, and thus we grade on your use and activity of those features. Your overall grades are a weighted average of these grades." (Source:beta.prollie.com/Pages/FAQ.aspx)

Prollie does not just surface data to grade you, though. The goal is to also determine who you are through your passions in order to find interesting like-minded people.

To start using Prollie, visit beta.prollie.com/.

What do you want from your employees?  List the top ten things you want—or maybe even expect from them.

What do you want for them?  In your heart of hearts, what do you want them to experience at work?  What kind of experience do you want them going home to their loved ones having had all day long?

What differences are there in the tone of the two lists?

5 Things Never Heard at the Most Innovative Companies - Forbes

"The most interesting thing about the Fast Company Most Innovative Companies 2013 list isn’t who is on it. It’s who isn’t. Writing about the companies that had fallen off the list (and were obviously upset about it), Robert Safian, Editor of Fast Company magazine said, “It’s not that these businesses suddenly lost their mojo. But in a climate where the velocity of change is accelerating, these companies didn’t have a compelling-enough breakthrough for us to highlight.”

Safian’s remark perfectly illustrates the essential element required for survival in today’s economic environment. If you aren’t constantly innovating, your organization is most likely losing its edge. If your innovations are incremental – not big enough to move the needle – you’re still losing."

Three things I want accounting students to know: The career path | CPA Learning | Scoop.it

The 3rd thing I want accounting students to know before they graduate.

Rebekah Brown, CPA's insight:

The typical career path isn't a nice, well-lit, straight, flat street. It's more like Lombard Street in San Francisco -- in the dark. A couple of things happen along the way: You make valuable contacts (even if they don't seem that valuable at the time), you learn new skills, and perhaps most importantly, you learn more about yourself.

Retaining valuable staff members is CFOs’ top staffing concern, according to a recent survey.
Rebekah Brown, CPA's insight:

I think the most important method is:

Make training available. Improving skills can raise morale and boost productivity.

Create a culture of learning where two of the other methods combine:

Collaboration: (Keep your door open)

Provide curriculum for a clear advancement path: (Promote from within)

Developing an engaging culture for all generations in their firm, most importantly for those who will carry the torch in the next 10 to 15 years.

Give young people and future leaders an opportunity to lead. Let go of “old school” notions that they can’t lead because of their age, how many years of experience they have (or don’t have) or that clients can only interact with partners.

The Generational Divide in the Accounting Profession and Why It Matters | Going Concern | CPA Learning | Scoop.it

"Unfortunately, this industry will continue to reward those who sacrifice their time, their family and their lives over those who find ways to manage effectively, and become more efficient. The end result is that current senior management will label my generation as lazy and arrogant (both are partially true). If you tell me that I can achieve success, as my superiors have, by working 3,000 hours a year I would see it as a failure. If I have to work as much as someone else did 20 years ago to accomplish the same results have we really progressed at all?" David Maister blog post

Learning to Be a Leader: Leaders Must Be Curators

Learning to Be a Leader: Leaders Must Be Curators | CPA Learning | Scoop.it
Wikipedia describes Digital curation as ...the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital assets. Digital curation establishes, maintains and adds value to repositories of digital data for present and future use. This is often accomplished by archivists, librarians, scientists, historians, and scholars. The term curation in the past commonly referred to museum and library professionals. It has since been applied to interaction with social media including compiling digital images, web links and movie files. Curation as a teacher is vital. Curation as a administrator is vital. Curation as a leader is vital. Curation as a life-long learner is vital. Curation helps us interact with the resources available; it helps us categorize, organize, and share resources with others. In curating resources we learn, grow, and contribute to our professional and personal learning networks in a hugely beneficial capacity that is only outmatched by the reciprocity it produces if done using social media like Diigo, Twitter, blogs, etc.
