Washington, Dist. Columbia Family Counselor Job at Youth Villages - SocialWorkJobBank

Washington, Dist. Columbia Family Counselor Job at Youth Villages - SocialWorkJobBank | Counseling positions | Scoop.it

My thoughts:

This is the type of counselor I would want to be! Working with families and youth sounds good to me; better than addiction counseling. Although there is still emotional drama that comes up when working with families and children with behavioral problems, I like helping people fix their troubles and work on solutions. While reading this article, it didn't seem like a difficult position to land either; a Bachelor's degree in social services is required and a Master's is preferred, which is what I had found out in my research of careers. Most jobs also require 2 years of experience so that must be job shadowing or assisting another counselor.

Counselor - HigherEdJobs

My Thoughts:

I was lucky to find this article because I have been having troubles finding articles that actually relate to exactly what I was looking for. This article talks about a counseling position for high school students. I am not sure that if I became a counselor I would want to work in a high school but the position sounds appealing. It talked about doing a six-week summer program which I have experience doing. I assisted my mom, a preschool teacher, in a six-week summer camp for 3-5 year olds. Now it wasn't exactly a counseling position, but it was hands on work with kids and it was fun! The article talked about getting a Bachelor's degree in Counseling and Guidance, but a Master's is preferred. This caught my eye because it is what I have been researching about for this career field. There are so many things to keep in mind when it comes to this position because there are so many routes to take.
