The Costa Rica Flag was adopted on  September 29, 1848. It has horizontal stripes of blue on the top and bottom of the flag. It also has white stripes in between the blue stripes and a red stripe in the very middle. The national coat of arms of Costa Rica is positioned on the the red stripe. The colors of the flag were borrowed from the French Tricolore.
