Nemaclolin Woodland Resorts is a top spa resort in Pennsylvania that offers a full salon and spa. Some of the services offered are facials, manicures, pedicures, haircuts, hair coloring, and a variety of massages. Their expert massage therapists must have extensive knowledge on anatomy and physiology. You must have three years of work experience and a Pennsylvania license for massage therapy. To work in the salon, you must have two years of experience and have a Pennsylvania cosmetology license.

Total revenue, spa visits, revenue per visit, total number of employees and the total number of spa locations all experienced an increase over the previous year. Spa visits are back at their pre-recession peak. The spa industry created $14 billion in revenue in 2013. The industry is expected to keep climbing.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of personal appearance jobs is projected to jump 31 percent between 2008 and 2018. This rate of growth is nearly three times that of total U.S. employment during the same period. Careers in the salon and spa industry present opportunities for business ownership. 61 percent of salons are owned by women.

All of the major personal appearance occupations are projected to post job growth stronger than the overall economy between 2008 and 2018. The number of skin care specialist jobs is projected to jump 51 percent, while hairdresser, hairstylist and cosmetologist positions are expected to increase by 31 percent. Overall, more than 1.1 million professionals work in personal appearance occupations in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Individuals in these occupations have a much higher rate of self-employment, as compared to the overall workforce.

A day spa is an establishment that offers a variety of skin care services and cosmetic services. Day spas offer a variety of services for skin, body and nail care. Most day spas offer facials, manicures, pedicures and other hand, foot, and skin treatments. Often day spas will also include massage services.
Some day spas also include retail sales of beauty products for consumers. Skin care products may include lotions, exfoliants, anti-acne products, tanning and bronzing products, and herbal or chemical solutions. Nail care products may include nail polish, acrylic nails, and nail care tools.

There are many different areas within the cosmetology field including hairstylist, manicurist, pedicurist, facials, shampoo technician, and beauty therapist. You can work as any of these in salons, department stores, beauty supply stores, nursing homes, motion picture and video industries, and hospitals and medical care facilities. All of these cosmetologists must be licensed in the state that they are practicing.

There is so much more to cosmetologists than just cutting hair. Hairdressers are licensed cosmetologists that are specially trained in beauty techniques. The median pay for cosmetologists is $30,050. The flexibility in this job is better than most. Most salons encourage expression through tattoos, piercings, and a fun work environment that lets stylists be creative.

The cost to take both the theory state board test and the practical test is $150. You must be at least 16 years old and you must have a minimum of 1,250 hours completed in a cosmetology school. Cosmetology professionals must be licensed by the state of Pennsylvania to work on anyone in a salon.

Most cruise ships hire cosmetologists from Steiner. While living on the ship, living conditions are very small and only have necessities. All room and board is paid for while living on the ship.

To become a cosmetologist, you have to be at least 16 years old and attend a licensed cosmetology school. This career requires constant training with new trends. There will always be a strong competition for jobs in high end salons all over the country.

Every day the salon spa industry continues to grow. Over a decade, the number of spa locations has grown from 5,700 in 1999 to 20,600. The number of spa visits has grown from 90.7 million in to 143 million.

Between 2008 and 2012 the spa industry has reported revenues of 12.8 billion dollars. This industry has also reported 150 million visitors in this time. During this time there were about 138,100 full-time and 137,200 part-time employees. In the salon industry, it is estimated that it will make 62.46 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. 88% of people that go to salon spas say that they go to relax.

In 2012 there were a total of 339,400 employees working in the salon spa industry. There were 156 million spa visits that year also. All of those visits resulted in $13.4 billion in revenue at the end of the year.

The US hair care services industry includes about 86,000 establishments (82,000 beauty salons; 4,000 barber shops) with combined annual revenue of about $20 billion. Major companies include Regis, Ratner Companies, Premier Salons, and Sport Clips. The industry is highly fragmented: the 50 largest companies generate about 15 percent of revenue. Major products are hair cutting, hair coloring, nail care, skin care, and merchandise sales. A typical salon offers haircutting and styling, coloring, shampooing, and permanents. Some salons also offer nail care, facial treatments, makeup, bikini waxing, massage, tanning, and other types of spa treatments.

Most cosmetologist working for Disney parks work on wigs for shows, parades, and venues. You must have at least two years of cosmetology experience to work in the park. Some cosmetologists have the opportunity to work in salons at the park working on guests of all ages to make them feel "like a princess".

Cosmetologists are expected to start out at a salary of about $31,220 a year. 92.6% of cosmetologists have a career related job in a year after they graduate. Cosmetology schools cost $10,000-$20,000 for a 9 month program. The unemployment rate for cosmetologists is very low because they are in such high demand.

Carnival Cruise Lines offer a full salon including hair, nail, and make-up services. Carnival does not directly hire, instead they hire through special cruise service hiring sites. This European style salon is a nice atmosphere where specially trained stylists will pamper guests.

Hairdressers working on cruise ships are expected to be able to do all of the services that a land based salon would do. These services include washing, blow drying, cutting, and coloring hair. You must have 1 year of work experience as a cosmetologist before being able to work on the ship. The salary range for working as a hairstylist on a cruise ship starts out at $2,200 a month but can go up to $4,400 per month.
