165 years in prison for US man in Haiti sex abuse - Firstpost | Corruption in Family Courts | Corrupcion en los juzgados de familia | Scoop.it
A Michigan man was sentenced Wednesday to 165 years in prison for traveling from Florida to Haiti countless times to sexually abuse dozens of children who lived in a group home he ran for the poor.
Global Expats's insight:

Abusers (be they sexual, physical or psychological) seek the vulnerable members of a society as these are "easy targets."

Empowering Women to Empower Themselves | Quenby Wilcox

Every time I turn around, I encounter another organization that is dedicated to "empowering" women. But, when one starts to scratch the surface, moving beyond the rhetoric, it is clear that very few understand, and much less address, the harsh realities women face into today's world.

Global Expats's insight:

This is the crux of the problem -- judges (& lawyers) who consider VAW/DV the "Right" of the abuser, with no regard for the victim's pain & suffering or even their Rights under the law. California (& the world) need a serious reality check in examining what kind of lawyers they are licensing & what kind of judges are they putting on the bench!! REMEMBER THE NAZIS DID EVERYTHING THEY DID WITH THE CONSENT OF THE COURTS!

My story is a case study of what is happening in many courtrooms where good mothers are having their children taken from their arms and handed over to their abusers. We must change our system so protective mothers and abused children are treated fairly.

Mother risks jail for defying court orders in custody battle over children

Mother risks jail for defying court orders in custody battle over children | Corruption in Family Courts | Corrupcion en los juzgados de familia | Scoop.it
Jennifer Jones, 48, from Llanelli has been embroiled in a tug of love battle for two years with her Spanish husband, Tomas Palacin Cambra
Global Expats's insight:

Why should this woman be held responsible for 'dragging kicking and screaming' her children back to Spain. It is the job of the police to enforce court orders not her. As always, blame the victim and re-victimize the victim, in order to 'save face' of abusers and the courts

-- And, then these kids and their mom should sue not only the British govt. for putting them in harms way, but also the Spanish one.

In Defense of Maria Jose Carrascosa: Rights Are No Rights Unless Protected and Defended

In Defense of Maria Jose Carrascosa: Rights Are No Rights Unless Protected and Defended | Corruption in Family Courts | Corrupcion en los juzgados de familia | Scoop.it
Why is the growing illegal incarceration of women for discriminatory reasons not accorded the same consideration as the illegal incarceration of men for discriminatory reasons by the international human rights community?
Global Expats's insight:

I first became aware of Maria Jose Carrascosa's illegal detention by the State of New Jersey in 2008, and have closely followed the horrific travesty of justice and mockery of the democratic process by New Jersey for the past 8 years. Unfortunately, the illegal detention and incarceration of victims of domestic abuse (in psychiatric facilities and penal institutions), is a growing phenomenon, as it is increasingly being used by abusers as a weapon when victims attempt to flee and escape the abuse - as has been the case with Ms. Carrascosa.

The violations of Rights by the State of New Jersey and American government, in this case, as with others like it, are appalling, inadmissible, and inexcusable - as is the silence, and inaction, of the Spanish government.

It is incomprehensible to me that the international legal community has not yet taken a very, very strenuous stand and action in this case -- as well as how it pertains to a growing trend in family courts, and courts in general.

U.S. top court throws out man's conviction for Facebook threats

U.S. top court throws out man's conviction for Facebook threats | Corruption in Family Courts | Corrupcion en los juzgados de familia | Scoop.it
By Lawrence Hurley WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday threw out the conviction of a Pennsylvania man over threatening statements he made on Facebook toward his estranged wife, law enforcement officers and children in a case touching upon the boundaries of free speech online. The court ruled on an 8-1 vote in favor of Anthony Elonis in a decision that could make it harder for people to be prosecuted for outbursts on social media. Elonis served prison time for posting a series of statements on Facebook in 2010 after his wife left him.
