Inside Philanthropy: Nonprofits need time to think

The corporate culture at too many nonprofits, in short, is akin to that of government agencies or other public institutions in its mediocrity, its dysfunction and its reinforcement of problems by ignoring them or denying they exist.

PMC Raises $35 Million For Jimmy Fund

PMC Raises $35 Million For Jimmy Fund | Non-Profit Event Planning | Scoop.it
BOSTON -- This year’s Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride raised $35 million for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the PMC announced Friday. Friday, November 11, 2011.

- This article doesn't elaborate on the event specifically, however, I think it reveals the importance of donators being passionate about the cause. If I am to go into the field of event planning for non-profits I will have to be in charge of putting together soirees and such for our donors as well as the public. It is important to maintain donors as well as attract new donors and supporters. Creating events and fundraisers for a non-profit is essential in its success.

For those biking, it's also important to offer them support in their own fundraising efforts, which can be difficult for some!

Face-to-Face and Virtual Events: The Essential Stats You Need to Know | Non-Profit Event Planning | Scoop.it
An infographic summarizing ten surveys published in 2011 regarding face-to-face and virtual events.

- I think this article is rather intriging. The continuous growths of digital communication allows us to explore different avenues of communication. It is important to have acess and knowledge about the dfifferent types of mediums that you can use for meetings, events and conventions when planning a corporate event.

-If I need to plan a corporate meeting on a regular basis and my client has employees all over the country then it would make sense to have meetings and seminars over the internet by using OovOo or other types of communication software. It will save the company money and allow for instant contact.

QR-codes can be a benefit to your customer - when used correctly. I can think of multiple occasions I've been reading a sign or poster and uttered the phrase "wish they had a QR-code". However, sometimes it can be more of a deterant than anything. This is one of those times.

An intimate setting would be nice for the core staff of a non-profit to enjoy a private dinner. We always need to remember after an event is executed to recognize the people behind the scenes. That is why I think a small private reception once or maybe twice a year would be great depending on the size of the organization and their staff.

- This is an interesting article that sheds light on the different types of racing events that are used to fundraise or raise awareness about a certain non-profit. It seems that endurance races are most effective when trying to secure the most amount of money. Endurance races that involve teams have are more likely to raise more money which is a good thing to know.

ASTD 2011 State of the Industry Report Finds that Senior Executives Continue to Invest in Employee Learning and Development

ASTD 2011 State of the Industry Report Finds that Senior Executives Continue to Invest in Employee Learning and Development | Non-Profit Event Planning | Scoop.it

This article talks about how in 2010 businesses invested money and time into learning and development for employees than ever before. I think this is great because I am a true believer that we must have education throughout our whole life to make us well rounded employees and individuals. Especially with changing technologies and policies it is essential to make sure that your employees are up to date with the most current information.

Businesses have realized the value of learning and the importance of investing their time and money into there business to prosper and be efficent.

I chose this article because I am thinking about going into corporate planning and since there has been an influx in education for employees that will effect my job as well. I could potentially be planning different ways to educate and plan functions for employees that will be benifical and fun.
