Patrick Wallace's insight:
This article makes several very good points about both the Generational Perspective, and the Generational Gap that has the meetings industry in a concerned mindset. There is a real possibility that the Millennial Generation, the very generation coming into decision making roles, will opt for more and more virtual meetings. The very prospect of dwindling "market share" of live conferences versus virtual has been an ongoing discussion point in the Meetings & Conference Industry.
But - there is a very good example in the article of the legend - Mr. Steve Jobs & Apple, and how Mr. Jobs used conferences and meetings to build a huge buzz about products not yet released. Brilliant positioning, expert needs analysis and a never ending drive for success is what I personally recall from those events.
So - it may be a concern that there may be a reduction in LIVE meetings, but in my opinion it is up to the LEADERS to reconfigure the event structures to better serve the needs of a changing audience.
