The Branding Source: New logo: A&O

The Branding Source: New logo: A&O | Corporate Identity | Scoop.it

A&O is an Italian supermarket chain with about 750 stores which is a part of the retail group Selex. This week, it unveiled a refreshed logo as part of a chain-wide renovation.

The previous logo, which seems to be relic of the "block" signs that were very common on supermarkets in the 50s and 60s, has been updated by making the squares a little rounder, revitalising it while keeping it recognisable. Four "bars" in different colours have been added underneath, that "give liveliness to the sign and are consistent with the new store environments".

India Says Life's OK...

On December 18, Life OK, India's newest television channel, appeared in millions of homes across the country with an identity far different than any other on Indian TV. The London agency venturethree worked with Star TV's India team, London's top character animators, and the brand agency The Council to bring the brand to life both on and off screen. The icon takes its shape from the letters of the word OK, and acts like a living, breathing character that guides audiences through the channel, which will feature shows that reflect on people's lives and the things that matter most.

Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance rebrands as Direct Line

Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance rebrands as Direct Line | Corporate Identity | Scoop.it

Whatever happens, the brand recognition of Direct Line is evident. When Post published its Top 100 UK Insurers supplement in 2011, Direct Line’s brand rating according to Brand Finance was the highest of the RBSI portfolio, as it came out as AAA- and was the second top-rated insurer, coming behind only Aviva.

They say it’s all in the name, so what effect will the company’s investment in the new D-shaped rainbow-coloured logo, created by Johnson Banks design agency for what RBSI told Post was a “minimum” cost, have on the company?

Xander Bird, valuation director at Brand Finance, said: “The new branding has got its own distinct visual identity that is different to Direct Line, but the name itself, that is what people are going to be talking about and it is the name that has got a lot of awareness and is highly regarded.
