In house and agencies: why you need both when it comes to digital | Corporate Communication & Reputation | Scoop.it

It has proven more cost-effective for companies to hire in-house staff to accomplish goals than to try to outsource to high cost agencies. However, there is one major drawback to having everything in-house and that is stagnation. The greatest area of profit for an organisation lies somewhere in between.

It's Time to Cut Back on Social Media |Harvard Business Review

It's Time to Cut Back on Social Media |Harvard Business Review | Corporate Communication & Reputation | Scoop.it

I recently got back from the New Media Expo in Las Vegas. Scheduled before the massive annualCES gathering, it's a powwow for bloggers and other social media enthusiasts, early adopters who are quick to jump on board the next great thing. So imagine my surprise when I realized one of the undercurrents of the event, burbling repeatedly to the surface, was a desire to cut back on social media efforts.

That doesn't mean doing less overall or abandoning new media. But it does speak to a desire to prune and focus on the platforms that have the most impact. It's hard to say no to the crush of social media demands. During a panel I moderated with well-known blogger and tech expert Robert Scoble, he said there was no alternative to constant, ubiquitous engagement and held up a spare battery he carried for his smartphone, so he'd never run out of juice. No time to respond to tweets? Do it while you're walking down the hallway, he said. Plenty of people agree with him....

Stop Knocking Curation: Steve Rosenbaum | Columbia Journalism Review

Stop Knocking Curation: Steve Rosenbaum | Columbia Journalism Review | Corporate Communication & Reputation | Scoop.it

Curation has been steadily rising as a concept as the sheer volume of undifferentiated content has made it nearly impossible for mere mortals to find useful, thoughtful, contextual content on the Web.

But its practice is undervalued. In just one example, a 2012 wrap-up in The Atlanticcalled “curate” one of the “words we’d just as soon never write or see or hear spoken again.”

I disagree. Information overload drives content consumers to look for human filtered, journalist vetted, intellectually related material. This hunger for coherence isn’t unreasonable; it’s essential....

Defiantly agree with this article. Having that relationship, regardless of it being just a business relationship, is so important today as there are so much more competition and consumers expect a lot more. This touchs on the need for emotional responses within the business world. Wat do you think?

Ali White's comment, April 9, 2013 10:15 PM
I agree with you Toni and also believe that a positvie relationship between brand and consumer is so helpful for the business. The consumer feels satisfied with the product and will likely re-buy and the company has a brand loyal consumer, it looks like a win-win.
