Internet Security Suites (Group Test)

(PRINT PUBLICATION - Please contact the F-Secure UK & Ireland team directly if wish to view. A few extracts from F-Secure's mentions in the piece are below.)

F-Secure Safe 2014 received the lowest score of 3.5/5 stars. Strange, as the review posted online awarded us 4.5 stars.

“The suite contains antivirus, anti-malware and anti-span modules, as well as a firewall and parental control, but there’s no tune up or backup provision. It’s more of an antivirus product than a full suite.”

“The 2012 and 2013 versions of F-Secure Safe had trouble scanning our file collection. An initial scan of our 50GB basket of files showed over 10 hours to complete. We contacted F-Secure and provided our files for the company to analyse and sort out the problem. Some weeks later, it let us know it had fixed the issue. Unfortunately, it still seems to be there in the 2014 product.”

Avira Antivirus Suite (2014) review

http://bit.ly/1hSIQxl

(“Avira also attempts to head off infection by blocking access to known malware-hosting sites. It did a decent job, blocking access to 71 percent of the viable URLs in my collection. Note, though, that F-Secure, Norton AntiVirus (2014), and Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus (2014) managed to block 100 percent... Both Avira products left behind a fair number of executable traces of the malware they did detect, some of them still running; this dragged their final scored down. Avira Antivirus Suite earned 5.2 points while the free edition got 5.7. Webroot, F-Secure, and Bitdefender tied for top score among current products, with 6.6 points. “)
