Cornwall's Buried & Sunken Treasure Map

Cornwall's Buried & Sunken Treasure Map | Postcards from Cornwall | Scoop.it
Swash-buckling pirates burying chests full of gold and jewels might sound straight off the pages of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island but the truth is pirates and their booty hiding practices were very real between the 16th and 18th centuries, and nowhere more so than in Cornwall. What's more, with countless ships transporting precious goods through its notoriously volatile waters and past its jagged rocks, it is little surprise that many were wrecked and sank along with their crews and cargoes. Here, I have compiled some of Cornwall's best treasure spots, lost and found.

This is a great guide to things to see and do on Bodmin Moor and the Tamar Valley. As most people flock to the beaches and coastline of Cornwall, these areas are often overlooked by visitors.

The list includes some absolute gems such as climbing Rugh Tor or going for cruise on a boat up the Tamar River.

This a superb area to explore, experience and enjoy. Be sure to check it out next time you are on holiday in Cornwall.

Free hotel stays if there is snow in Cornwall this winter.
This is Cornwall
Some forecasters may have predicted snow in Cornwall this winter but a hotelier is remaining optimistic the white stuff will not reach the county.
Elliot Walker's insight:

A free stay if it snows - this is a great marketing ploy from the coastal Idle Rocks Hotel. Maybe a gamble if it's going to be as cold as the weatherman predicts.

Someone sent me this one. A pic from 1986 in Cornwall, England for the World Amateur Championships. I was 14. The water was freezing and my O'Neill wetsuit didn't fit. I placed third, one spot ahead of @johnshimooka and just behind Nicky Woods and 'Poto' David who won the event in the under 18, Junior Men's division. The waves were better than you'd think you'd find in England but the food was much worse. I'll have to find some other photos from that trip. Jeff Booth placed second to Mark 'Sanga' Sainsbury in the Men's division. 'Sanga' (R.I.P.) was a great surfer and was one of the innovators of huge floaters over hollow sections. But we Americans all felt Boothy had out surfed Sanga though it wasn't to be. If you thought floaters scored high in Brasil a couple years ago, you should've been in England in '86! I think @rcj6666 placed third in the Men's that year. So many memories over a lifetime of surfing around the world. #TheOriginalFloatergate #FreezingMyAssOff #TwentyFootTideChanges @dougsilva808 @lewissamuels
