It's a breather week for the PARCC states as most states have completed the first window of fieldtesting and are preparing for the second one, which starts May 5.
So far, so good. Testing has gone quite well, with nearly a half million students participating so far. The good news is that in general they really like the computer-based format and think the interactive questions are more engaging and more interesting than what they are used to with current state tests. We'll have even more information in the coming weeks as students (and test administrators) are giving us additional feedback through surveys. We take that feedback very seriously, and it will influence what comes next. It's one more way in which educators and students in the states are taking the lead in shaping the PARCC assessments.
