EdTechTeacher Innovation Summit Resources | Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners | Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners | Scoop.it

I had a fabulous time presenting at the EdTechTeacher Innovation Summit in sunny San Diego yesterday.  It was inspiring to be around passionate educators with exciting ideas. It was refreshing to be surrounded by crisp air, bays and palm trees.

The innovation summit combined an iPad Summit with a Google Summit. This made the conference highly appealing to me since Google Apps is most highly used tools in my toolkit.

Of course, my favorite way to use a Google Doc is to embed it into a ThingLink.

Creating My Personal ePortfolio of Learning | Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners | Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners | Scoop.it

As I prepare for the EdTech Teacher iPad Summit in Boston next week I've found an incredible opportunity to practice what I will be teaching. I've started a ThingLink ePortfolio to document my own learning throughout the conference. I plan to capture the learning through images, photos and tags to prepare to use and share it.

This sounds like a lot of fun and I suspect my own session will include some very practical tips and tricks learned along the way since I will be attending 9 sessions and participating in the Creation Station all before my session on Wednesday.

Free PD Series to Transform Teaching & Learning

Free PD Series to Transform Teaching & Learning | Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners | Scoop.it

In 2010 the National Education Technology Plan was released by US Secretary of Education,Arne Duncan. This was a comprehensive vision for how teachers working with technology can transform student learning in classrooms across America by the year 2015. The Center for Digital Education summed up these ideas concisely in an article published on November 10, 2010, 5 EdTech Goals for 2015. According to this article,

"Schools should change learning so that it’s engaging and individualized. Potential technology tools include wikis, blogs, digital content and visualization tools”

Over the course of the past 5 years, school districts and classrooms across the US have made great strides in providing students with access to technology. With these costly commitments comes the expectation that teachers will use the technology to transform teaching and learning. Many teachers didn’t sign up to be technology teachers and they may find the expectation to transform teaching and learning to be overwhelming, especially when combined with expectations to implement new and more rigorous standards that are measured by standardized testing. Let’s face it, educators have a full plate!

Technology - I chose this resource because it supports the struggles teachers have in regards to implementing technology in the classroom.  Not many of educators have had training in technology and having free PD's will help teachers gain experience to improve their lessons.  I hope to share this with other educators letting them know the help is out there and to reach out if they need additional training in the ever changing world of education.

I've added the most flexible tools to my own digital toolkit, which has grown into a collection of tools capable of supporting powerful learning experiences. As I reflect on this learning journey, my mantra remains the same, I Blog to Learn!
