All of these sites focus on learning and curation, but could one of them really be the "Pinterest of education"?
As one of the fastest-growing social networks, Pinterest's popularity can be attributed to its ease of use and vibrant Pinboards. Recently, a number of similar social curation sites developed specifically for students and teachers have popped up, emulating Pinterest in key ways while focusing on learning. In some cases, they have even made improvements.
Here are five such sites that could be contenders for the title "Pinterest of Education"

Lately, we’ve watched as images – from photos to infographics – have taken over the web. As photos take over Facebook newsfeeds and Pinterest explodes, I see so many people trying to accomodate an image-centric process into their digital curation.
Since its launch in March 2010, Pinterest has become the most popular virtual Pinboard online. It has tremendously grown in popularity that it reached 10 million active users in a very short period of time. Pinterest , just like all the other popular social networking websites, has its own potential in education .

Heiko Idensen reports in his curated newsradar "Online Curating & Social Learning Tools and Applications": "Learnist is a new pinboard where users can organize their learning materials. It resembles Pinterest except that Learnist is just for sharing learning resources.
The website is still in beta but looks really very promising for both teachers and students.

Pinterest doesn’t just look different than other social networks — it’s looked at in a different way, too.
While most websites draw users’ gazes toward the left-hand side of the page, participants in a recent eye-tracking study for Mashable instead shifted their eyes from the top down the middle of the page. They also spent relatively less time looking at profile information than their counterparts who looked at Facebook pages.

Pinterest has rolled out a newsletter that emails users curated content.
From Mashable: "Users on Pinterest usually have to seek interesting content for themselves, but a new feature quietly rolled out today drives them to even more personalized content.
...many users are sure to appreciate Pinterest’s new weekly email newsletter, making it easier to find even more great pins and helping them keep tabs on how their own pins are doing.
Mimicking the website’s pinboard style, each pin or board in the email is linked to the website, but users are unable to re-pin or like a post directly from the newsletter.
The newsletter lists a few popular boards, pins from friends that might be of interest and a useful feature for brands especially: your most popular pins of the week."

Pinterest has been grabbing the headlines recently as its network approaches 20 million users per month.
In March compete.com reported that Pinterest had received 18 million unique visitors with AppData reporting that the visual social network had received a record 4.4 million daily active users on March 18.
There are reports that Pinterest’s growth is slowing but just like Twitter and Facebook reports of its demise maybe slightly premature.
