5 Tips For Using Pinterest In Your Classroom | Edudemic | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Pinterest has taken off in the past few months. According to a Shareholic study, it exceeds reddit, Google+, Linkedin, and YouTube as a referral source. It may seem as though everyone you know is Pinning something to the online bulletin boards to share their favorite articles, collections, and items available online.

This is a great social networking tool that you can use for educational purposes, whether you are a teacher or a student.

This tool can make it possible to create boards for specific projects and to collect and share lesson resources.

Be sure to see the education page!

Learning is the master skill, the ability that allows us to realize our ambitions: succeeding in school, getting ahead at work, playing a sport or a musical instrument, speaking a second language. Yet until recently, even the experts didn’t understand how learning works.

Teachers Guide on The Use of ePortfolios in Education

Teachers Guide on The Use of ePortfolios in Education | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Have you ever thought of teaching your students how to create an ePortfolio ? Well if you have not then it is about time to take the idea seriously. There are actually several reasons why you should encourage students to create their own ePortfolios but before we delve into them let me just briefly define what an ePortfolio is.

ePortfolio is an electronic journal where one collects evidence of their learning. It is the equivalent of the traditional pen and paper journals where we used to track our learning journey before technology takes over. ePortfolios can either be discipline specific or genrally open to the entire lifelong learning experience. We in education are interested in the first type.

The good thing about ePortfolios is that they help students reflect about their own learning. This reflection is a necessary mental process for developing critical thinking. Students no longer are just passive learners but rather actively participate in the improvement of their learning.

What is Education 3.0

What is Education 3.0 | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Education 3.0 is a term that has been used to describe a level of transformative capabilities and practices for education in the 21st century.

Professor Derek Keats, of the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa,[1] and his co-author Jan Philipp Schmidt, FreeCourseWare Manager at University of the Western Cape, South Africa, used the term in 2007 to apply to the use and impact on education of collaborative and personalized learning, reusable learning content, and recognition of prior learning (RPL) whether by formal or informal means.

Keats' explorations were focused on higher education.[2] Dr. John Moravec at the University of Minnesota broadens this view, and describes Education 3.0 as a product necessary to support what he labels "Society 3.0" - a near future paradigm of social co-constructivism, ambient technology, and propelled by continuous innovation at all levels of society.[3]

20 Ways To Make Professional Development More Effective

20 Ways To Make Professional Development More Effective | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it
Administrators often ask how to best utilize their staff meeting time to promote best instructional practices and improve professional development.

It has been said that once teachers start teaching, we become the most uneducated of professionals about our own profession, failing to research and implement the cutting-edge best practices that make the difference in student engagement and learning. We can’t use 20th century practices with our 21st century students.

In order to encourage and even demand curiosity, creativity, learning, sharing and growing in our students, we must model those traits within our own profession; a staff meeting is the perfect time to cultivate these skills within and among our colleagues.

G+ is catching up big time for many reasons.  Among these reasons is the Hangout integration.

We just facilitated a remote 1.5 day leadership development session with Hangouts and it was fantastic.

Google is sticking to their strategy and their value is starting to win people over.  I was never a fan and, through valuable features, I am changing my perspective on the suite of offerings.
