Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: How Things Changed With @Evernote

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: How Things Changed With @Evernote | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

I'll admit it.

I have to be one of the most unorganized people on the planet. I have notebooks in just about every bag I carry. Multiple calendars and I still miss appointments. Slips of papers as reminders with some string of illegible thoughts on them, that, when I find them, I don't have a clue what I was thinking when I wrote them.

I have more than 10 different types of projects going on at anyone time. A book, book chapters for others, keynotes to write, presentations to prepare, consulting, product review, and on and on and on. Not to mention my projects with my district.

Organization isn't really in my vocabulary.

Well, let me say, it wasn't in my vocabulary.

But it is now, thanks to Evernote.

Can Social Media Change a School? | Engaging Educators

Can Social Media Change a School? | Engaging Educators | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

I’ve written previously about my new position as an instructional coach at our school. The roles and responsibilities of this job are pretty much what you would expect: meeting with teachers, observing teachers, modeling lessons, etc. But I’m taking on a little extra as a side project in addition to all that…I want to be my school’s social media ambassador as well.

What’s a social media ambassador? Glad you asked. It’s the person who tries to engage the school community in new ways, especially parents and families, via social media. In short, I want families to be able to use social media as a sort of window into the school, allowing them to have more insight and information about what’s happening with their children while they’re here. Thanks to social media and snazzy gadgets like smart phones and tablets, though, it can be a window that they can peer through from anywhere at anytime.

50 Interesting Ways To Use Skype In Your Classroom | Edudemic | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

I’m a so-so fan of Skype. I’ve used it on an infrequent basis and have had more than a few dropped calls. Audio and video alike.

However, it’s a cheap way to make long distance calls and seems to work better over wi-fi and the video quality is improving on a regular basis.

So therefore it’s probably a great tool for the classroom. But how can you use Skype to do more than just make calls? Well, there’s a pantload of interesting ways! Check out these fun ideas:

Nik's Learning Technology Blog: Online Teacher Development Works Best - 15 Reasons Why

Nik's Learning Technology Blog: Online Teacher Development Works Best - 15 Reasons Why | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

I've started this article with quite a bold statement, but it's a conclusion that I have been coming too over the course of quite a few years now. I should really put this into context though, as most of the teacher training I do deals with pedagogical training for the use of technology and is most often delivered during intensive face to face sessions, usually with groups of teachers working in a computer lab. Though, having said that, I do still believe that many of the reasons I have listed below do also apply to other kinds of more 'mainstream' teacher development too, especially intensive courses.

Video tutorials are great way to stimulate students cognitive capabilities and elicit more engagement from their part. But not all the teachers have the necessary skills or time to go about creating tutorials for their students and this is why we should always make sure we have a bunch of ready-made tutorials at our disposal for rainy days.

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: Why You Should Give Edmodo A Try | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Recently I attended the North Carolina Technology In Education Society's (NCTIES) Annual Conference. So this year we did something new. We partnered with Edmodo to create the NCTIES community. This was something they had done with FETC and had great success with so we were eager to see how it would work for us.
