4 reasons you'll like Microsoft's new OneDrive | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it
Microsoft's rebranding of its cloud-storage service SkyDrive to OneDrive is more than just a name change. Here are four new features that make the service even better.

Danica Kloes's curator insight, March 4, 8:01 AM

I think that OneDrive already sounds a lot better than the SkyDrive we have right now. I can't say that SkyDrive is bad because I don't really use it, but it didn't seem that important except to back up files. The idea of more free storage is good, because the couple times I checked out SkyDrive I felt like they really weren't offering enough (I believe it was only a couple GB). The real-time collaboration feature will make things much easier on students in particular; you won't have to worry about meeting up to work on some things anymore. The video sharing isn't very innovative, but it's convenient for people that share videos often. And for the people that have the Windows phone, I'm sure they will appreciate the new OneDrive app.

TBL and PBL: Two learner-centred approaches

TBL and PBL: Two learner-centred approaches | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Todoele's curator insight, July 31, 2013 3:36 AM

Many newly qualified or inexperienced teachers tend to base their lesson planning on the traditional PPP approach (Presentation, Practice, Production) because it is reliable and it is a valid framework around which to base a series of classroom activities. It is also usually the best way of covering all the lexical areas and grammar points in the course book or syllabus. All good and well. The problem is that PPP serves the teacher’s needs but it is debatable whether or not it fulfills the needs of the learner.

The language presented and practiced does not take into account the particular needs of each learner; the language content is almost always dictated by the coursebook and/or syllabus. For this reason, many teachers, having experimented with the PPP approach turn to more learner-centred approaches where the needs of the learner are central to the lesson content. Two such approaches are TBL (Task-Based Learning) and PBL (Project-Based Learning).

Integrating Moodle and Office 365 for Education

Integrating Moodle and Office 365 for Education | TEFL & Ed Tech | Scoop.it

We’re continuing to build the list of integration resources that we provide for Moodle, so that schools, TAFEs and universities can integrate their Moodle platforms more securely with the rest of their existing infrastructure. This is a common goal for central IT teams, where they want to ensure their users (both staff and students) are able to move seamlessly between their different systems, and their data isn’t locked into a single platform. For example, rather than having learning resources locked away within their Learning Management System it’s possible to use the content management of SharePoint, and storage space of OneDrive (the new name for SkyDrive), to ensure that users have access even when they are not using Moodle directly, or to provide content management such as version control for staff. In the past I’ve written about the SkyDrive/OneDrive plugin for Moodle and the Moodle kit for Windows Azure.

The latest plugin from Microsoft integrates Moodle with Office 365 and OneDrive. This allows teachers to create courses and assignments in Moodle that can be read, edited, and submitted by students in SharePoint.

As you’re preparing your lesson plans and classrooms for the first day of school (which may have already happened for some of you!), keeping in touch with parents is probably on your mind. Where I worked I communicated a lot with parents. This seemed to be a problem for the School managers who wanted to monitor and control the communication.

@ivon_ehd1

Durriyyah Kemp's curator insight, Today, 7:25 AM

Teachers, lets plan to engage parents from the start.  Establishing common language, shared agreements, expectations, etc. from the beginning is a great way to get buy-in from the parents at the start of the school year.  Engage parents immediately and form a sturdy partnership with them, by letting them know how often you'll be contacting them, and that they are welcome in your learning community.

Kelly Christopherson's curator insight, August 20, 11:34 AM

Although some of these provide different ways to integrate technology, I often wonder if, instead of making tech "fit", the goal should be what learning/growth/idea/concept do we want to explore and then proceed from there instead of seeing what tool we have and directing the learning with the tool.

Bernard Petter's curator insight, August 20, 3:14 PM

all you have to do is...give it some thought.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, August 20, 3:14 PM

Digital technologies should fit the learning and its context. It is not the other way around that learning fits the digital technologies.
