The ideology of the American elite is counter to their own needs and interests, let alone the interests of the American general public. You don't eat liberty, neither can you measure it. Furthermore, crass individualism gives you the experience of being somehow disconnected from the rest of the world and, therefore, leads to a false sense of a lack of responsibility for the planet and for the human society in which they live, are apart of and are, actually, dependent upon for labor, company and health. Well being, contrary to liberty, is something that can be broken down into its general composite parts and measured accordingly. Food and water security, access to healthcare, employment and a psychological sense of comfort and fulfilment are things that can be examined tangibly and are relevant to our total well being as living organisms living on this planet. It neither runs counter to the interests of the individual, nor does it run counter to the interests of the collective general public. Still, the rich insist on preserving "liberty", as if it means anything on this plane of existence, and they're willing to dunk themselves under for the sake of "having" it. Such a silly bunch of people. Think about it.
