French onion soup is one of those dishes which cannot be improved because it is already incredible. The classic soup is made with beef broth, caramelized onions and a dash of sherry, then finished off with a Gruyère cheese-topped crouton and perhaps a sprig of parsley.

This soup is always good whether you are enjoying a mug of it for lunch, satisfying your hunger pangs after a busy night's partying or if you just want something classic and comforting for your supper. If you have ever tried homemade French onion soup you will know how fresh and delicious it tastes. It is easy to make yourself too, and this is a great recipe for impressing dinner guests.
