The awards season has come to a close, culminating with the much talked about Oscars 2014 and we are betting many actors have learned great things from this year’s event and planned to apply it to their acting auditions. This year’s Academy Awards was so talked about that it virtually caused Twitter to crash for a few seconds and that does not happen to Twitter anymore. Now that the buzz of all that partying has died down, the actors took home with them discoveries that could change the way they will look at future movies and awards season. Here is our own list of the top 10 things that actors can learn from the epic Oscars 2014 and some acting tips to go along with them: 1. Celebrities have fun – even at the Oscars! From the best celebrity group selfie ever to Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing U2 on the red carpet, celebrities sure know how to have fun. This shows how much they love their job so much that they can easily have fun with it – a must for every actor. 2. Breaking Trends Can sometimes be Good. This year it was Pharell Williams who took home the nod for outstanding fashion statement on the red carpet with his Lanvin short tux. Crazy, but it was taken by everyone very positively, which means breaking the trends is not really a bad idea not even for an A-list event such as the Oscars. 3. The Right Roles Come at the Right Time. Actor Jared Leto has been on a long-standing hiatus from his acting career, focusing more on his band, 30 Seconds to Mars. It takes a project like Dallas Buyers Club to get him out of his rocker persona into women’s shoes playing the transgender Rayon. In the end, his efforts and his vision paid off with him bagging a bunch of awards this season. 4. You Will Be Given Your Time to Shine. Winning director and producer Steve McQueen marks his win as a development in the movie industry. He was quoted to say that the people from the background are starting to get recognized on the foreground. So no matter how insignificant an actor feels right now in their career, they will have their own time in the limelight. 5. “Dreams are valid” – Lupita Nyong’o. The biopic 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture, which makes Steve McQueen the first black man to receive a Best Picture award. Mexican film director Alfonso Cuaron also scored his first Oscar that night. But Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o definitely summed up the night’s surprise wins with her speech: “…may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are valid”. 6. The Industry is Opening to More Trends. Clearly, the Academy has gotten rid of so many notions and stereotypes this year. They no longer follow the theory where the winning Picture always bags the Best Director award. The Brits have won many more awards this year and beginners like Barkhad Abdi and Lupita Nyong’o can definitely be at par with veteran actors they used to look up to. 7. You are Good Enough. Lupita Nyong’o was one of the most quotable actors that night especially during her post Oscar interview. She was quoted to say that when she was being true to herself, she was allowing herself to do extraordinary things. That should be instilled in every actor’s mind – to be true to their craft so they can go to great lengths in their careers. 8. You Don’t Need an Oscar to Validate Your Work. It has taken years for Leonardo DiCaprio and yet his Oscar still remains elusive, but that never stopped the actor from making good performances. Let us remember that it took years for Al Pacino to get one, too! If an actor thinks they have done a great job, then they do not need an award giving body to validate their abilities as actors. 9. There is so much history to be made. This year’s Academy Awards night was undisputedly one of the best in almost a decade – from touching song renditions to A-list actors sharing pizza on what seemed to be Hollywood’s most glamorous night. There sure is a lot more things to look forward to in the coming years. 10. You are your own hero. Lastly, the night was riddled by many touching and somewhat out-of-this-world speeches, one of which was delivered by Best Actor Matthew McConaughey. Taking his speech in context, it sent out a message to other actors to chase their dreams and dream acting jobs so they too can become their own heroes 10 years later. This year’s Oscars was filled with surprises and stunts that made any other awards night seem bland and boring. It clearly showed that even stiff glamorous events can bring out the goofy and candid side of our actors. Certainly, the 86th Academy Awards will go down in history not only with its antics but with giving inspiration to more actors to become better in their craft by starting great with their acting auditions.
