How the Right Tech Can Improve Your Content Marketing Workflow

How the Right Tech Can Improve Your Content Marketing Workflow | Context Driven Marketing | Scoop.it
“If your company produces content at scale, you already know this well: Successful content marketing depends on effective collaboration during the editorial workflow process. And like it or not, content creatorsand editors want to work in the tools built specifically for their jobs. Writers use Microsoft Word, designers lean towards the Adobe Creative Suite, video producers use Adobe Premiere, Avid, or Final Cut, and so on. No matter what any tech vendor tells you, your team isn’t going to write or edit online in a rich text editor (RTE). Sure they’ll copy/paste into the RTE, but the work will get done in Word (or any number of composite content applications available in the marketplace).”

How Storytelling Can Increase Any Business

“Every entrepreuner has a story to tell. Get some insights on how to use storytelling techniques to tell your story!”

Karen Dietz's curator insight, June 30, 1:46 PM

This is a great SlideShare piece by Lusko advocating that any business -- whether you are a startup or an established brand -- can use storytelling to grow.

I like the points made here about the kinds of stories you can tell, along with the list of customer personas that make your story crafting easier.

I just wish they had described the archetypes more! But never fear -- just Google the archetype and you'll have  wealth of information. Or use Carol Pearson's book The Hero And The Outlaw for a complete explanation (I have no financial ties to Carol).

So grab this piece and hone your stories!

Why Content Marketing Fails (and what to do about it).

By Moz Rand Fishkin.
Via Guillaume Decugis
more...
Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, June 9, 7:34 PM

This is a very dense deck by Moz founder Rand Fishkin but it's probably worth reading a few times.

The first point he makes is really about how to set the expectations - and therefore the KPI's right. As Barry Feldman recently pointed out, this is indeed critical and a good idea is to look at subscription/lead generation rather than direct sales.

But he also makes interesting points on the roles of community management and amplification.

To fly, your content needs to be designed to resonate with a community. But that's not enough: you also need to work on the mechanics of amplification which can come from social, 1:1 or SEO.

This brings back the necessity of having a solid content hub in place for your content marketing: one where your target audience can not only easily read all of your content, but also reshare from it and land on through SEO or email newsletters.

How To Activate Tribes For Viral Content Marketing Success

How To Activate Tribes For Viral Content Marketing Success | Context Driven Marketing | Scoop.it
“The idea of “Tribes,” popularized by Seth Godin and others, is just a fancy way of articulating the idea that the internet has allowed for massive segmentation of individuals. Michael Kristiansen's curator insight, May 30, 7:07 AM

This by another name is targeted marketing.  Rather than invest in mass marketing and hoping you hit something, tribal marketing success is built on relationships and like interests.  Defining who are your best prospects is a worthwhile exercise that yields better customer acquisition cost.  The more you know about your best prospects, the easier it is to discern whether you'll reach them on Facebook or on LinkedIn for example.

The main attraction that builds a highly interested tribe is the story.  The most success goes to the people who can tell engaging stories that naturally support and sell your product or service because more people can relate and desire to buy from you.

Sue Cockburn makes a great point on SocialMediaToday; and one that I've often seen underestimated (as a matter of fact, I was highlighting it myself in a talk last week).

As she pointed out, one of the reasons for this is certainly the hype on social media (and its apparent simplicity).

With the Scoop.it team, we've been trying to identify the other reasons explaining that by observing many companies - small or large - implementing their content strategy:

- small businesses are often finding it difficult to integrate their social media publishing efforts with their own website in a simple way (hence our own efforts to integrate with Wordpress, offer embeds and make website integration easy);

- larger companies can also face that (even when they have IT departments, they're not always reactive and available for marketing-driven projects) but there's another factor: very often, social media publishing was initially defined as a standalone role (and even if it's a cliché, sometimes to the millenial in the team who "got it"). This meant it grew in a silo alongside other marketing activities such as SEO, content marketing or building up the WebSite to modern standards.

Any other factors that explain this that you came across?

Sue Cockburn's curator insight, June 19, 12:30 PM

5 Ways to Curate Content for Your Content Marketing

5 Ways to Curate Content for Your Content Marketing | Context Driven Marketing | Scoop.it
For today’s marketer, it is well known that only sharing your own content is not sufficient. Potential customers want to feel that you can provide them with valuable content, regardless of the source.Content curation, namely the strategy of disseminating valuable content from an outside source to your community – in this case, your social community – is the go-to strategy for this. While for some this may seem counter-intuitive, it is actually one of the best ways to establish thought leadership. Social communities look to their connections to learn about relevant industry news, tips, and insights that will help them in their day-to-day lives.
