Startups should be focused and there's a tendency in Silicon Valley to be "product-only" companies while in early stage. But building a product without customer feedback is a recipe for disaster so marketing is not a late stage activity. And as Susan Su from 500 startups articulates very clearly in this webinar, content now prevails over ads in many ways so that your best bet as a founding team to get your first users, collect feedback and iterate from your MVP might well be content marketing.

The thing is content is complex and time consuming so entrepreneurs embracing it need to be efficient. This webinar gives a great list of recommendations on how to do that and be a lean content marketer.

Is content marketing for established companies only? 500 Startups' Susan Su says no and articulates how to embrace it from an early stage.

Content Curation:Tips, Tactics, Tools & Techniques You Need To Know

Content Curation:Tips, Tactics, Tools & Techniques You Need To Know | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

For this month's Net2 Think Tank, we asked you to share your tips, resources, and ideas about curating content at your organization or enterprise. Below, read the curated list of the community responses we received - and share your own tips in the comments!

Topic: What are your best practices for curating content? Share your tips, tactics, tools, and techniques for effectively curating to serve your audience. And, if you've written about curation in the past, share the link with us!

Here's a quick working definition to get us started: Content curation focuses on using the web to highlight important information in situations where information overload may be a problem. Many organizations today are writing on the web regularly to communicate with their audience. At the same time, information pollution is an increasing problem for the consumers of that content. As Will Coley explains, "when organizations offer clarity amidst the noise, they build trust among supporters"

How To Effectively Combine Curation With Your Content Strategy

How To Effectively Combine Curation With Your Content Strategy | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it

Margot Bloomstein, a content strategist talks about how to combine curation to your content strategy by showcasing lessons she has adopted from museum curators and so much more.

What caught my attention:

**She talks about copywriting issues. Because a curator goes way beyond aggregating which is just gathering content, they arrange it in order of relevance, point out what you should pay attention to and many other important things.  It takes a lot of thought to assemble pieces in a cohesive manner, add context to it, ad take it to the next level.

**It is appropiate to give the curator credit if you're going to repost or use it in any manner.

12 Most Easy Traps To Fall Into When Curating Content

12 Most Easy Traps To Fall Into When Curating Content | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
Margie Clayman discusses the 12 Most Easy Traps To Fall Into When Curating Content.

Intro:

Last week we talked about reasons why a person (like me) who is curating content may not include certain kind of posts. This week I want to talk about some of the traps one can fall into when working on curating content. Having fallen into most of them, this is something I know a lot about. Or, like Han Solo famously said, “Hey, trust me.”

Here's what caught my attention:

Gathering posts that are all from the same perspective

If you are doing a lot of curating, you’ll notice something that is not all that surprising. You’re going to gravitate toward posts you agree with. It’s nice to have validation of your views, and we just naturally move towards people who think like we do. When you’re curating content though, you’re responsible (I believe) for offering a variety of perspectives to show the spectrum of what’s out there. I’m doing the best I can to offer a wide range of perspectives at The Blog Library because I don’t want any visitor to feel like they are not represented or welcome there.
