Livefyre Studio Puts The Company’s Focus On User Generated Content And Social Media Curation

Livefyre Studio Puts The Company’s Focus On User Generated Content And Social Media Curation | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
In a quick demo, founder and CEO Jordan Kretchmer showed me how a customer could search for different types of content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and across the web; hand-select the content or set up rules for automated gathering and filtering; then publish it to a customized media wall on their own site, their mobile apps, or in an ad. (The search part, by the way, is powered by Storify — Kretchmer said it’s the first integration of Storify into the main Livefyre platform.)

Livefyre Studio also includes the ability to ask users for the rights to their content, and analytics capabilities to see how these campaigns are actually performing.
Tom George's insight:

Anthony Ha has written an excellent article on Livefyre. Apparently they are much more now then a commenting system. Give this article a read to learn about their new social curation product called Livefyre Studio.

The Social Strategist: Best Tools to Find Fans for Your Google + Brand Page

The Social Strategist: Best Tools to Find Fans for Your Google + Brand Page | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
Building a following for a brand page on Google + is not easy - and building a following that is targeted, interested and engaged in your brand, product or service may seem next to impossible; however, there are tools that can help you identify and follow potential fans in your niche.

I manage several brand pages and have observed many others; I am convinced that there is a "tipping point" that you need to achieve before your page will begin growing organically. I also believe that this "tipping point" cannot be achieved (or at least would be much more difficult to achieve) by following people at random or simply by being included in shared circles.
Tom George's insight:

This is a great post by Christine Degraff on how to go about building up the right following on Google Plus. Tons of valuable information here, as well as her real world case study on how she is kicking butt on Google Plus. Be sure to give it a read and let me know your thoughts.

What a content distribution strategy looks like in practice

The next step is to synthesize all these tools and ideas into a single strategy. For many of us, the two free channels for content distribution—owned and earned—make for a huge number of possibilities on their own for getting our content seen and heard. Clement Vouillon put together a neat graphic that shows what this two-pronged approach could look like.

In a post at KISSmetrics, Shannon Byrne shared the owned and earned content distribution strategies for Mention. Here’s what their list looks like:
Tom George's insight:

I get really excited when I see a post like this. It lists about 17 great services and platforms for content distribution, and almost half of them I have never even heard of. I will let you know what I discover. This post originally appeared on the Buffer blog.

4 Easy & Honest SEO Mistakes That Could Penalize Your Site

4 Easy & Honest SEO Mistakes That Could Penalize Your Site | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
No one gets a site penalty on purpose. Sometimes it happens through carelessness, sometimes through black-hat techniques and, sometimes, through honest SEO mistakes.

I’ve watched four such mistakes happen recently. These sites were honestly attempting to follow SEO best practices, but they were penalized. Why? I’ll explain all.

It is worth noting that I wrote this article based on a real-life experience, so this isn’t pie-in-the-sky theory. Each point that I discuss below is tied to a real life ranking problem. Each example that I discuss is connected a to a real-life online business. (However, company details have been changed to protect their identities.)

A Disclaimer: If you find any points of connection between your site and the examples, don’t panic. Millions of sites have affiliate programs. Millions of companies engage in cozy relationships. Just because you share a commonality does not mean that you’re careening for a penalty.
Tom George's insight:

Neil Patel does a great job listing these four SEO case study examples. I like it because these are real world case studies and not simply theories. We all want more organic traffic, but above all make sure you are not courting these SEO disasters. A very well thought out and informative article by Niel Patel.

Viral's Secret Formula

Viral's Secret Formula | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
Participants in a flashmob dance an improvised version of the Harlem Shake in front of the Berlin cathedral February 20, 2013

Want to know why things go viral? Why some products get more word of mouth? Let me tell you a secret. It’s not luck.

Viral has become marketing’s Holy Grail. From the Harlem Shake to the Rutgers basketball coach abusing his players, hardly a week goes by without some video or news story going viral. And word of mouth and virality have a huge impact on businesses, large and small. Blender company Blendtec’s sales shot up more than 700% a few years ago after videos of the CEO blending things like iPhones spread like wildfire. But what makes something go viral?

If you ask most social media “gurus,” they’ll tell you it’s all about getting lucky. Viral isn’t a strategy, it’s like buying a lottery ticket. Or they’ll talk about cats. Lots of people share videos of funny kitties, so cats must be the reason things go viral.
Tom George's insight:

In interesting much more scientific reason why content goes viral. At least a very insightful piece.

There are no guarantees in marketing. But if you tap into the heirarchy of social needs, someone is bound to see it. Some campaigns backfire into mocking memes due to message disconnect. But then again, that is still viral.

11 Things To Invest in Right Now to Grow Your Business Online

11 Things To Invest in Right Now to Grow Your Business Online | Content Marketing Tips | Scoop.it
There is a seismic shift in how you as a business should be creating, thinking and evolving in the 21st century.

It revolves around the virtual world that cannot be touched but it is as real as any physical object. It is such a big shift that many business owners are ignoring it because they either don’t get it or are afraid of it.

It’s also called digital technology.

Here is a tale of two retailers. In it we can see a glimpse of what the implications are of either embracing the digital world or just playing at the edges.

In the USA Nordstrom is a brand that is investing heavily in technology and building its online brand assets. Over the last 3 years it has invested more than $2 billion in technology primarily aimed at making it easy for customers to buy online. That is 50-65 per cent of its cash flow. But sales have increased 50%. Its share price is up 200%. It is obvious that they get this social digital web.

The department store Myer on the other hand has invested very little in its digital presence and assets over the last two years in comparison. Its sales are flat and the share price is down 50%.

Which one would you invest in? Is business extinction a real possibility for one of them?

Ahhhhh -- here's an article that is music to my ears!

It's all about how GE is working with the principles of storytelling to provide buyers more than just information about product specifications. GE is deliberately working with stories to create the human connection with each other that we all desire.

How do they do that? This article, written by Tony Zambito for the Business2Community blog explains a lot about their approach. Like spending lots of time on listening first. Yeah!! That is a foundational skill for storytelling and a key commitment for GE.

There are 4 other story principles GE follows. I love "learn imagination". Another thing I like about this article is that there is not a distinction made between corporate storytelling and brand storytelling -- they are viewed as one and the same here, not discrete activities. Thank heavens.

Read more about how GE approaches its storytelling. You too can use the same principles with the same great results.
