Common SEO Myths and Misconceptions

Common SEO Myths and Misconceptions | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
SEO has a bad reputation, lets face it. Shady linkbuilding, key-phrase stuffed doorway pages and secret handshakes are all part and parcel of being a search engine marketing expert. Or are they?

META DATA HAS NO IMPACT
This is one myth that really hacks me off and is shrouded in misunderstanding. Most search engines stopped looking at meta keywords a long time ago as they have been so heavily abused in the past.

Blogs have receded in significance as more social channels and video have risen to the fore. Visual content is increasing in importance.

Why an Optimized Content Strategy is Crucial for Social & Search

Why an Optimized Content Strategy is Crucial for Social & Search | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
Success in social media and organic search is only possible with an optimized content marketing strategy. If you don’t have the latter, you may as well forget about being remotely successful with the former.

Aside from the usual reasons why you should push for Organic SEO on your content development. Here is another good reason to keep this in practice.

When you publish content in Twitter or Facebook, how findable is that content after 24 hours, 48 hours, one week, one month? With Google+ and SPYW your content has further reach and a longer life than in any other social network. That is powerful.

How Business Names Might be Used by Google in Local Search Ranking Signals

How Business Names Might be Used by Google in Local Search Ranking Signals | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
A Google patent describes how the length of a business name might influence how Google calculates a webscore ranking for local search results.

All I can say is when Bill Slawski speaks you should listen... This patent seems to be based upon an assumption that the longer a business name is, the more unique it might be, and the more likely that many or most of the web search results returned on a search for the name are going to be about that specific business.

Google Confirms Panda 3.3 Update, Plus Changes To How It Evaluates Links, Local Search Rankings & Much More

Google Confirms Panda 3.3 Update, Plus Changes To How It Evaluates Links, Local Search Rankings & Much More | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
Google has confirmed a new Panda update at the same time that it’s announcing 40 search updates that happened in February (or are in progress right now).

Here’s what Google says about its latest Panda-related change:

Panda update. This launch refreshes data in the Panda system, making it more accurate and more sensitive to recent changes on the web.

This sounds very similar to Panda 3.2, which happened in mid-January and was described only as a “data refresh” and not related to new or changed ranking signals.

The Most Effective SEO Strategy of All Time

The Most Effective SEO Strategy of All Time | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
About 3 years ago, a client pointed out to me that my website seriously lacked SEO. He appeared to know a lot more about the subject than me (which at that time definitely wasn’t saying a lot), so I thought it best to listen.

Read 10 stories on SEO and you get, well, 10 different stories. No one agrees on anything. Or should I say everyone agrees on nothing?

I lied.

Everyone seems to agree on one eensie-weensie word of wisdom. The word is relevance.

All retailers have product pages. Some product pages are good in that they help you sell. Some product pages are neutral in that they don’t detract from making a sale. Some product pages – well, they hurt your sales.

Is your product page earning it’s keep? Is it attracting and engaging qualified buyers? Does it have a profitable look-to-book ratio? Product pages must work harder than ever before, since visitors are demanding more from your product pages than they ever have before.

Is There Such a Thing as Content Strategy?

Is There Such a Thing as Content Strategy? | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
Strategy is defined at a senior management level. Good content can help implement that strategy..

The Web is about the rise of customer power. Social media is just one example of that. Is the organization truly going to focus on and organize around the customer?

That's the key strategic question. How do we frame content in that context? So, it's not about content but rather about culture, because as the great Peter Drucker once said, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast."

I think that’s an important perspective, because some online marketers use a small handful of tools but their expertise is very deep.

Why most small start-ups don’t need to worry about branding

Why most small start-ups don’t need to worry about branding | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it

This creates a dilemma for start-ups. Do they spend a load of money up-front creating an image for a business they hope to grow over the coming months? Or do just begin trading, get some satisfied clients, create some cash flow, then worry about how they are perceived in the wider marketplace at some later date?

Is this arguable? I think so, considering smaller companies can at the very least establish themselves above the fray with great customer service. Brand is not just a logo, a website, it's a connection, it's how you as the brand can make your clients feel, engage, soar...discuss:
