How to Please Google in a Post-Hummingbird World | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
SEO today is more nuanced than ever -- click here to learn how to create content in a post-Hummingbird world.
Level343's insight:

Google’s Hummingbird algorithm looks at the meaning behind a query, rather than delivering search results based purely on matching a few key terms. If the meaning of your content doesn’t match the spirit of what the user is looking for, Google is going to have a hard time finding it.

Ridiculous things SEOs hear, and our reactions in GIFs

Ridiculous things SEOs hear, and our reactions in GIFs | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it

Search engine optimization is one of those weird, nichey industries that’s hard for outsiders to understand. Hell, with Google changing the rulebook every week, it’s hard for us insiders to understand most of the time.

Level343's insight:

First of all, let’s be clear that we’re not even going to talk about meta keywords tags, because they’re obsolete. Yes, they are.

Second, “tweaking” the keywords on your website isn’t going to do anything other than make it harder for you to rank consistently for certain terms. Your core products and services remain the same, and if you add new ones, then you should be adding new content for them, not cannibalizing another page’s rankings.

Writing Guest Blogs that Dominate

Writing Guest Blogs that Dominate | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
After the explosive online storm that followed Matt Cutt’s declaration that guest blogging was more or less dead, everybody who was anybody in the world of SEO had something to say on the subject. ...
Level343's insight:

The true purpose of a guest post, the practical purpose, is to attract new readers to your blog. It’s like a first date or an audition — you show the people how clever and witty you are, you intrigue and delight them, and if you’re really lucky, they’ll visit your blog or social media site to find out more about you. It’s ok if you’ve got something for sale, provided you’re motivated beyond your call to action and give those readers something they want for free.

Traffic Strategy #7: Write Reviews or Top 10 Lists - Omaginarium

Traffic Strategy #7: Write Reviews or Top 10 Lists - Omaginarium | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
Writing a Top 10 List is a great way to build traffic to your website or blog. In these top 10 lists I would research the experts, give an example of their work, write a small blurb about what I find valuable about them, and of course give a link back to their site, and maybe a link to one of my favorite articles that they’ve written; the one that pushed me to name them on this list.

CMOs, Is the Era of Blogging About Blogging Over? | Content Strategy |Brand Development |Organic SEO | Scoop.it
Should marketers still be blogging about blogging? A better focus often is the topics your target audience cares about and reaching the right audience.
Level343's insight:

Great post by Margie Clayman

If your company is hoping that your blog will convert to sales, relying on serendipity is not the best way to go. How can you make sure the right people are getting your targeted content, then? Here are some ideas:

• Put a link to your newest blog post in your email signature

• Update your LinkedIn company page with your latest blog posts – there is a high likelihood a prospect will check you out there

• Make sure your customer service department is kept updated on what is going into your blog. They may be able to direct callers or social media questioners to your blog for reference.

• When appropriate, highlight a customer who has won an award or who has been recognized in their community or industry. People are more likely to visit a blog when they know there’s a chance they might be mentioned.

Seriously Google? I'll admit the content there is thin, and needs stronger, relevant, story telling, bolder content. But I personally think NoFollow is unnatural. It only serves a purpose for Google, not for readership, or GOD forbid link ability. Just saying folks... carry on.

12 ways to get your readers and customers to follow your call to action. This is Part Two of a two-part blog post.
Level343's insight:

Finding the right words is key- Urgency seems to be the way to synch this.

Your call to action should also give a sense of urgency while communicating to consumers exactly what you want them to do and why they should do it. To create a sense of urgency, use words like the following: “call,” “buy now,” “register,” “donate,” “for a short time only,” and “order now to receive a free gift.” One of the most important parts to ensure urgency in your call to action is the end date: “Offer expires February 20th.”
