Content Marketing vs. Sales Enablement. Is Content Marketing Still Useful?

Content Marketing vs. Sales Enablement. Is Content Marketing Still Useful? | Content Marketing: Quality Content and Website Visitor Engagement Means Improved Google SEO Rankings | Scoop.it
The bottom-dollar question: Is content marketing still worth it?

In fact, for most marketers, content marketing is a massive waste of time, according to one marketing technologist.
GeorgeGrant's insight:

Another interesting post about the critical importance of producing high quality useful content.

However, the post does not mention the related issue of curating content for an audience without enough time to keep up to date in their niche. Especially, if that niche is a constantly changing topic like content marketing.

So will a "mobile first" world eventually obviate the need for web content marketing as a top priority?

The logical conclusion: Act, measure, and figure out what works for you.

The Number of US Ebola Cases Predicted By Scientists

The Number of US Ebola Cases Predicted By Scientists | Content Marketing: Quality Content and Website Visitor Engagement Means Improved Google SEO Rankings | Scoop.it

Experts studying the spread of Ebola say the public should expect more cases to emerge in the United States by year's end.

GeorgeGrant's insight:

Scientists don't think that there will be a huge outbreak by the end of the year, but some models are predicting from 2 to as many as 130 cases in the US by the end of the year. If that comes to pass, that will mean that every major city in the US would see at least a hand full of cases. Hopefully, the worst case scenario does not come to pass. That said, we recommend that you keep a close eye on the Ebola outbreak timeline here - http://healthmap.org/ebola/#timeline It's a great resource to track the outbreak on a world-wide basis.

Syndicated Blog Content: Do I Dare I Do It?

Syndicated Blog Content: Do I Dare I Do It? | Content Marketing: Quality Content and Website Visitor Engagement Means Improved Google SEO Rankings | Scoop.it

Blog syndication can be an effective way to help boost your reputation and online visibility. However, due to Google Panda updates, and crack down on guest posting. it's more important than ever to be away of the SEO risks and syndicate your content very carefully, so as not to accidentally pick up a Google penalty.

GeorgeGrant's insight:

In this wonderfully lucid post, Eric Enge is the president of Stone Temple Consulting, summarizes the "Why, When and How" to do content syndication correctly, with minimal to no SEO risk. His post clearly explains the differences between content syndication and guest posting, the advantages of syndication and how to do content syndication safely. Of particular importance is a table at the end of the posts that lists options for syndication and the related risks. If you are thinking about content syndication, or if you have been doing much content syndication on your blog or site, I recommend that you read the full article.

If you are in a rush, then the take away is that there are really only two useful tactics that will prevent duplicate content issues, with respect to content syndication:

1. Be sure that the publisher syndicating your content uses a Rel=Canonical tag on any post that you provide them. Or,

2. Be sure that the publisher syndicating your content uses a NoIndex tag on any post that you provide them.

No other tactic will off you much useful protection, so be sure to apply one of these tactics, or don't syndicate.

How To Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites Without Getting Hit With A Google Duplicate Content Penalty

How To Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites Without Getting Hit With A Google Duplicate Content Penalty | Content Marketing: Quality Content and Website Visitor Engagement Means Improved Google SEO Rankings | Scoop.it

GeorgeGrant's insight:

Yikes! Could this happen to your site?

We see Google Duplicate Content Penalties happening all the time. It's actually more common than you might imagine.

In this post to Neil Patel presents an excellent (data specific) case study of what can happen to your site when you syndicate content to other sites incorrectly.

I can tell you from extensive experience Google will slap you with a duplicate content penalty, if you syndicate your content to other sites without getting the other site to add a rel=canonical to your content.

Neal offers 3 important steps to follow when syndicating your content:

  1. Rewrite the content
  2. Talk to the site owner  and ask them to add a rel=canonical.
  3. Post the content on the other site only – sometimes it’s best to publish your highest quality posts on other people’s sites and not yours.

Neal's post also covers advice on syndication of international content and also what to do about syndications of portions of your posts.

This post is a good reminder / resource for all website owners. Not following this advice can be very painful.

If you find yourself with this type of problem, we can help. Please let us know.

GeorgeGrant's insight:

This SEO article has some interesting tips on how to keep you out of trouble (think Panda 4) when you're curating content.

As a practical matter I recommend giving the tips listed below a try. However, I think it's really important to add as much unique original commentary as possible to your curated posts. I found over the last year, that in addition to following advice such as that outlined in this article, it's also important to publish frequently and consistently.

Here's a quick summary of the key points in the article:

  • Curate for your audience not for sure search engine bots
  • Be selective about your content
  • Add feeds to Google blog search index
  • Post curated content to Google plus
  • Always annotate post with your own insights.
  • Be sure to retitle curated posts.

Best SEO / Competitive Research / Internet Marketing Tools - 2014 | Content Marketing: Quality Content and Website Visitor Engagement Means Improved Google SEO Rankings | Scoop.it

It's always a challenge to keep up with the latest SEO tools. In this Twitter survey, Martin Macdonald @searchmartin

What are your TOP 3 SEO Tools? #QuickPoll helps to get some good suggestions on the table.

GeorgeGrant's insight:

Top 3 SEO Tools

At ConnectedMarkets, we use all of the top 3 tools listed (SEMRush, MajesticSEO, and Screaming Frog) in the SEO, Internet marketing categories. I suppose that makes sense, as we are continually testing, using and monitoring new SEO tools.

New Competitive Research Tools

However, for Competitive Research, we prefer, SEMRush, SimilarWeb and Compete. We find the data quality in SEMRush, Majestic SEO and Moz to be significantly better than other tools.

We partially like the easy of reporting with RaveTools, and the fact that that Raven reports pull data from the most trusted sources, Google Analytics, Moz and SEMRush.

Two new tools that we like for competitive research are similarweb.com and follow.net. Similarweb.com is a useful competitor to Alexa, and we have not seen anything quite like follow.net for aggregated competitive scans including paid social. If you have not used similarweb.com or follow.net, it worth taking a look.
