The Future of SEO Involves Social Media

The Future of SEO Involves Social Media | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

I like this write up because it is in wonderful plain English - a simple explanation as to what is happening with search and social..

There are huge algorithm changes going on in the world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It’s amazing the level of work that search engines are doing to stop SEO guru’s from cheating their system.

Last week I was at a conference in Las Vegas and I got the chance to speak to a SEO insider.

This person explained how after many months of study, they are convinced that search engines (SE) are counting ”social network feedback” as a significant part of how they determine SEO rankings.

Infographic: Why Content For SEO?

Infographic: Why Content For SEO? | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

If you're still on the fence about whether you should get on board with social - and yes - not everyone is a social media marketer and has drunk the coolaid - this infographic should help.

Bottom line:

It’s all about how valuable your content is – the more valuable, the more likely it is it will be found.

Used to be that value was determined by how many people linked back to a static piece of content on your site.

With the rise of social it is less about linking to a static piece of content – and more about the actual sharing of your content.

The search engines are becoming more interested in how many shares you have as well as how many links.

If you’re not playing in these networks – you’re missing out.

12 Ways to Overcome Resistance to Social Media Changes

12 Ways to Overcome Resistance to Social Media Changes | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

This very helpful article was written by Cynthia Seymour for the blog The 12 Most and curated by JanLGordon covering "Content Curation, Social Media and Beyond"

Just can't beat this opening!: "Do you sometimes feel an overwhelming sense of dread when you hear that more changes are in the social media pipeline?"

And the 12 things?:

1. Challenge your resistance

2. Accept that change is inevitable

3. Get educated. "Master one network at a time" to avoid overwhelm

4. Get in on the conversation, don't just eavesdrop!

5. Engage day by day

6. Be “in the know”.  "...allow your personality to shine through your updates, because no one wants to read or converse with a Corporate Drone"

7. Help others first

8. Be of value.  Offer valuable information.  Don't over-advertise or you may find yourself being 'fitered out'

9. Manage your time.  With any luck, the good folks at 12Most might blow this one up into its own post! :)

10. Get focused.  Avoid random surfing.  Use RSS feeds and known sources.

11. Get excited. "social media is becoming the predominant form of global communications" so embrace the changes.

12. Embrace the future.  7 of the 9 youngest billionaires are in the Technical and Social Media Industries which were either fledgling or non-existent 20 years ago.  Who knows what opportunities there will be for todays youth!

As with the begining, the post has an ending that says it all: "All I can say is, fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride! The best is yet to come…"

9 Glorious Truths About Creating Great Content

9 Glorious Truths About Creating Great Content | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

My favorite header: "The bad stuff only happens after you start" - kinda like - you only know what it's like to fall off your bike once you've got on it. The idea that you can learn how to interact with human beings without actually interacting with them is clearly daft. Stop practicing and get out there…

Marketers don't like to make mistakes. People don't like to make mistakes. Content has become a core ingredient in the Marketer's recipe for success. The challenge is that creating great content is like creating art: it's not a perfect science...

Fundamentals of SEO for Facebook Fan Pages

Fundamentals of SEO for Facebook Fan Pages | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

Many have tried, and failed, to write a good post about how to SEO a Facebook fan page.

For example, optimizing the filename of your profile picture is one popular piece of advice that doesn’t really matter, considering Facebook just renames the file something like 198135_10150109366....jpg.

Another popular tip: you should link to your main website from your Facebook page. Yes, you should for visitors. But this doesn’t optimize your fan page because Facebook just nofollows, redirects, and clusters your URL in a mess of code anyway.

So let's take a different approach to Facebook SEO today.

I want you to imagine that your Facebook fan page is your website – or another website for your brand at least. While it may not ever rank first for a keyword, you still want it to be optimized.

Here is what to do:

9 times bad: Keyword research advice that sucks

9 times bad: Keyword research advice that sucks | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

I like Ian Lurie - not of course that I've met him - but I like the personality that comes through his writing so I read him.  Which is probably the point when it comes to content marketing - solid information presented in a palatable way - clever man!

There is some truly horrible keyword advice out there. If you run into any of these in a blog post or e-mail by an ‘expert’, move on. Don’t make eye contact. Don’t take any of their advice.

Moms Continue Flocking to Facebook - eMarketer

Moms Continue Flocking to Facebook - eMarketer | Content Marketing for Businesses | Scoop.it

The thing about Moms is that they’re a huge niche that shares really “sticky” characteristics – this is great for marketers wanting to create language that applies to as large a group as possible without getting too generic.

With Facebook becoming Mom central – it gives businesses some unique opportunities to speak directly to a target market in a way that wasn’t possible before. Think about it – your target market might be a mid level business executive – but how many of them are moms? A damn site more than last decade…
