Seth's Blog: Real-time news is neither

Seth's Blog: Real-time news is neither | Content marketing and content management. | Scoop.it

The closer you get to the event itself, the more it costs to find out what's going on. A week or a month or a year after the fact, the truth (or as close as we can get) is nearly free. Finding out that same truth mere seconds after it happens is costly indeed. Want to know what the crime rate in Scarsdale was like on January 1? You can look that up instantly. Want to know what it was three seconds ago? A lot more difficult. Mike Bloomberg became the richest man in New York by selling traders just fifteen seconds head start on the data they needed. Fifteen seconds costs thousands of dollars a month per trader. But in most cases, what we get online is not actually in real-time and it's not news, either....

J-P De Clerck's insight:

Exactly. Too much noise. Not enough reflection. In content marketing they call it "evergreen content" now. Well, we need buzzwords so evergreen it will be.

Social Storytelling Workbook: The Next Wave of Engagement

Most of today’s content strategies involve publishing hundred of bits of content per month across social networks, without any cohesive story or narrative behind the content. These random pieces of information tell a story to your fans and customers, whether intended or not.

Are you telling the right brand story? This hands-on session will help you:
· Identify the genre or type of story that you want to tell
· Develop a monthly story arc in your content calendar
· Create compelling, interesting characters your customers will want to engage
· Invite your customers to be in your story
· Frame your story within the Facebook Timeline layout

The paradox of the Almost 'Creative' | Velocity Partners

The paradox of the Almost 'Creative' | Velocity Partners | Content marketing and content management. | Scoop.it
The Almost Creative is a curious thing. Tasked with managing, directing and handling ‘creative’ work and ‘creative’ people, the Almost Creative must deliver value to the market using artillery they are not allowed to take credit for creating. Instead, the credit must inadvertently go to the real ‘creative.’ And I use the quotation marks around the word creative because I can never really say it without being sardonic. As far as I’m concerned, ‘creative’ work is actually just the process of synthesising existing ideas and concepts into something seemingly original. It’s the synthesis, the joining of dots that’s supposedly ‘creative’. Which is funny because, to me, nothing is as functional as writing. The choices I make as a writer feel as obvious and ‘logical’ to me, as I imagine they would have had I been a planner setting a strategy. And because they do, I’m a writer, not a planner. Which is why it’s hard for me to consider the planners, accounts people and clients we work with a
