More Feeling, Less Metrics. That's what I concluded when I asked myself "What Does Your Next Content Audit Need?" I've recently audited 130 blogs and 3500 posts
Stefano Principato's insight:

Do we need more content? No.
Do we need more metrics? No.
We need MORE feeling. We need to add more humans and humanity back into the process of content creation.

9 Social Media Marketing Mistakes (Infographic)

9 Social Media Marketing Mistakes (Infographic) | Content Marketing & Content Strategy | Scoop.it

Caitlin Mazurkevich's curator insight, November 20, 12:59 PM

There are so many social media platforms out there today, that most of the time it can be confusing and even overwhelming. This lack of understanding leads to social media mistakes that are hurting your business rather than helping it.

First of all stop worry about the number of followers you have and focus on the quality of these followers. So what if you have 900 followers, especially if none of them are interacting with your brand and seem nonexistent. Not only are you not properly reaching these followers, but you are adding to the clutter on their timelines.

You’re never going to get consumers to be enthusiastic about your brand if you don’t show them that you are too. Having a personality, a passion, will help consumers to better connect with your brand. Another thing to remember is that you don’t have to be on every social media site there is. Pick a few that work with your brand that you can handle keeping up with and posting engaging content on. Spreading yourself too thin will be overwhelming and have you posting content that is lacking.

Lastly, the most important thing that is hurting your business is not converting your followers into customers. This is the whole reason why you are on these social media sites, to connect with customers and get them to but your products. If you aren’t trying to get them into your store then you have lost sight of what you need to do. You need to balance creating connections with followers and getting them to go out and purchase your brand.

Sean Lorden's curator insight, November 23, 9:39 PM

This article goes in depth about social media marketing mistakes, and how certain things are not useful at all and can lead to failure when trying to market your company or business.  Focusing on quantity of followers over quantity is one big mistake because this means you are simply just worried about the number of followers, not actually engaging followers and creating good content, you want to be creative.  Lacking a personality is another huge mistake, and you want to make sure you bring out a personality and bring out the true colors of the brand or company.  Not posting engaging content on a regular basis is another mistake and will not give you a good reputation as a brand.  If you don't stay consistent and try to post things that will keep people interested, no one will want to check your page out and no one will show interest.  Finally, a huge mistake is not having a strategy at all and going with the flow.  This is a huge mistake because you at least want to have a solid base plan with what you plan to do, and not just go with the flow because that will just make things less organized and not attract people to your page.

The 3 Rs of Content Marketing (Infographic)

Rachael Johnston's curator insight, November 20, 4:04 PM

The 3 Rs are:

- Reorganize: look at ways you can use the content you already have in different ways. This will save time because you won't need to write a bunch of individual pieces and it will also help you reach your audience in different ways.

- Rewrite: after a while things can get stale. You should go through some of your older posts (the ones that did well or showed potential) and fix the things that make them stale, for example add new quotes, statistics, language.

- Retire: Know when material is out of date and no longer fresh. You don't want to keep sharing or promoting old, stale material. This can be very harmful to the brand's reputation. You can very quickly lose your audience if they lose interest in you.

* One thing I would be interested to know how to "retire" the content. Do they think it is best to get rid of it all together and delete it completely or should the company simply stop promoting it?

I think that they should just stop promoting it. If a consumer found it once they may want to find it again. Not to mention, deleting blogs and other content can hurt SEO. This can delete links and screw up the whole SEO process.

Rachael Johnston's curator insight, November 20, 4:25 PM

Content Marketing is very powerful when it is done correctly. In order to execute a content marketing strategy effectively, consumers must gain and retain brand trust.

A few techniques that will help a company accomplish this include:

- Be a thought leader: you need to add value to content for the consumers. Educate your audience and demonstrate that you are knowledgeable and an expert in your industry.

- Get visual: it is very important to include visual content in order to catch the interest of the consumers. Visual elements improve the likelihood of being consumed and of being shared.

- Establish a company blog: this is important  because it will further show that you are an industry expert. It will also help with SEO.  Remember to add value for the customer and create trust before asking the consumers for something. You need to create trust and reduce skepticism.

- Hold Webinars: This is a great way to get leads because people will sign up and give you their information. Make sure you have a good speaker, a topic specific to your audience, and a real-life application to it.

- Use Industry Events: holding industry events can help put a voice to your brand. Again, make sure you a great speaker to represent your brand. This is also a great way to get potential leads. Make sure the event provide value to the audience.
