This is a nice SlideShare piece that takes a complex subject and boils it down into easy-to-understand principles that anyone can use to create better visual stories.

Check it out. It's one of the better pieces I've found on the topic and includes some information I'd not seen before. Like the Taxonomy of Visual Content which covers different content in terms of cost, interactivity, and format. Very helpful! So is the slide going over the elements of successful visual content. The post also tackles how to get started.

Content marketing is one of the most powerful marketing tools startups can employ. Blogs are powerful drivers of awareness and creators of purchasing intent which ultimately lead to new customers, new employees or other new opportunities. This is doubly true as buyers are educating themselves before contacting sales teams to a far greater extent than ever. Below are the five things I wish I would have known when I first started.

I love the way Tomasz Tunguz puts things in a concise, elegant and convincing ways. He's not a marketer (originally an engineer and now a VC) but what he says about content marketing is priceless (about startups and particular saas startups too! - I've often curated some of his stuff here).

By going to the point, focusing on data and making complex things simple, he's been building an awesome readership on his blog.

His 5 tips will take you less than a minute to read and are either a great reminder or great things to start doing as a content marketer.

Do Keywords Matter in Google's Hummingbird World? | Content Marketing | Scoop.it

Implicit in Google's new methodology are significant changes for how marketers approach search engine optimization (SEO) and keywords. Now, every marketer needs to ask themselves: Do keywords even matter?

Why You Should Shift Your Content Marketing Focus to ROI

Why You Should Shift Your Content Marketing Focus to ROI | Content Marketing | Scoop.it

Content marketing will be an essential part of leading marketing strategies in 2014, but many marketers are still challenged by its deployment. For our 2014 Content Marketing Tactics Planner, Curata surveyed over 500 organizations about their content marketing strategies. Marketers identified their top three content challenges as limited staff, limited budget, andcreating enough content.

These same marketers ranked measuring content marketing ROI and promoting existing content as their lowest priorities. While it’s possible that some organizations are so effective that ROI and promotion aren’t seen as challenges, many companies are simply too focused on creatingcontent. They aren’t giving enough thought to promotion, distribution, and measurement. It’s time to put those priorities at the top of your list.

Three Must-Have Internal Metrics for Productive Marketing Teams

Monica Norton's insight:

It's no secret that analytics—related to your revenue, website, customers, and brand—should be a cornerstone of any marketing program. Tracking external metrics such as leads, traffic, and conversion rates are pretty much a given. But what about internal metrics?

Without department performance-related analytics, it's nearly impossible to pinpoint where changes need to be made and what areas need to be improved. Gut instinct is important; it just can't be your go-to metric if you want to show executives that you are getting the most out of the people and other resources that you have.
