Twitter Posts Awful/Hilarious Recruiting Video To YouTube | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

Twitter has posted a seriously awful/hilarious recruiting video to YouTube, which the company says was the product of last week’s “Hack Week... when employees were able to take time away from their day-to-day work ..."

Note: It's already curated in many places, but I post it here because it is fun !

Content curation no substitute for content creation | Forrester Blogs

Content curation no substitute for content creation | Forrester Blogs | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

"... in the age of customization most people are quite capable of curating their own information – just the way they like it. There’s very little a brand can do to add value to the original content once curated"

My comment: Interesting post saying outloud what many people believe. It does not mean it's true, though. Clearly, curation is no substitute for creation, but it it is not true that brands can't add value by curating content to embed their original message in a rich and unique context.

Twitter, Summify and the New Local Relevance Layer - Street Fight

Twitter, Summify and the New Local Relevance Layer - Street Fight | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

Summary: The author argues that Summify, the content uration company recently acquired by Twitter would help add a "hyperlocal" relevance layer to its sevice.

Comment: Summify uses a relevance algorithm similar to Facebook's Edgerank that filters the news a user is most likely to find important. It's unclear to me how this enables "hyperlocal" relevance. http://summify.com/

Is Twitter Helping Users Get Around Its New Censorship Rules?

Is Twitter Helping Users Get Around Its New Censorship Rules? | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

January 27: "Some of the messages Twitter is sending about its new policy on censoring tweets in certain countries seem ambiguous at best." writes ReadWriteWeb

Note: To read a more extensive account in the Wall Street Journal type "Twitter Can Censor by Country" in Google (if you're not a paying subscriber)

The incriminated January 26 post on the Twitter blog http://blog.twitter.com/ is called "Tweets still must flow". It says a.o.: "As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression". ... "if and when we are required to withhold a Tweet in a specific country, we will attempt to let the user know, and we will clearly mark when the content has been withheld."

Make up your own mind, check it out !

"We love our users! Michele Neylon of Blacknight and his team published this great post about Zemanta: Use Zemanta To Improve Your Blogging" "

Comment: Content Curation tool Zemanta re-blogged this enthusiastic post by one of their users. I love Zemanta, too. I added the free version as a plug in to my wordpress blog http://return-on-clicks.com/ and use it as a tool to verify how topics, pictures and keywords are trending. To my knowledge Zemanta is the only content engine that curates related content as you create your own original one.

Content Rivers and Information Gluttony Paper.li via Kurat | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

Summary: The author http://community.paper.li/author/ekiefer/ reflects on her/our use of content aggregators like Tumblr ad RSS feeds and the famous phrase by Clay Shirky, Web 2.0 speaker : “It’s Not Information Overload. It's filter failure". She says we need smarter tools than dumb aggregation tools but she also points to the danger of tool [like content aggregation tools] that filter and (re-)categorize content.

My (very personal) take: Content aggregation tools make the "river of content" bigger, not smaller, but they do help discover more content.

How Sharing Disrupts Media by Felix Salmon, Reuters & Columbia Journalism Review

How Sharing Disrupts Media by Felix Salmon, Reuters & Columbia Journalism Review | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

Summary: Reporting from DLD in Berlin Felix Salmon discusses how content curation will disrupt advertising-dependent media. These hope that curation will drive traffic to them. But viral stories take a life of their own, shared across many attractive platforms and read by people who will never visit the original creator -- depriving it of its advertising revenue.

My take: This definitely will happen. Curation will create a huge layer of derivative content that will outgrow the original content by a factor of at least 10. This is the "Content Inflation" idea I present in http://return-on-clicks.com/index.php/2011/08/facing-content-inflation/
