Beth Kanter's comment, July 13, 2012 7:53 AM
Robin thanks so much for highlighting the storify summary - I did that right after the session because I wanted to do a quick content analysis of the tweets and see what resonated. I also did the same for the chat logs so I could gather up the questions and make sure they were answered. The session was based on an article I wrote recently on why content curation - real content curation as you describe it - can benefit nonprofits. How it can enhance staff expertise and reduce information overload. Here's a blog post that wrote sharing some of the other resources, including many of yours. http://www.bethkanter.org/?p=5690

Are we stuck in filter bubbles? Here are five potential paths out

Are we stuck in filter bubbles? Here are five potential paths out | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

"Algorithms can help, but more fundamentally, we need to figure out what we want a diverse pool of information to look like."

Jonathan Stray gives interesting ideas on niemanlab.org on how to avoid the filter bubble, among which curation. "Editors still command attention" he reminds us. And he adds: "Editors could become curators, cultivating the best work from both inside and outside the newsroom."also pointing out that we prefer to rely on people instead of machines.

We agree!

Google's Death Greatly Exagerated: Google Search Still Growing

Google's Death Greatly Exagerated: Google Search Still Growing | Content Curation Tools For Brands | Scoop.it

Google is still growing. Searches continue to rise on a year over year basis. We spend so much time thinking about the growth of social companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, it's easy to forget Google is still getting more and more queries.

***** One of my 5 secret trends for 2012 is Google's resurgence. Marty

TT's comment: Google was never gone ! For all the good things about new discovery tools like content curation, as discovery tools multiply and content inflates, we need search more than ever. There isn't a single firm worldwide which can compete with Google in search. We're talking here both about quantity and quality: Bing does not even crawl a fifth of Google's pages and in terms of relevance only Google delivers decent longtail searches...
