French judge puts Twitter under pressure to identify racist tweeter | Content Curation Tools | Scoop.it
A French court ruled today that Twitter must identify its racist tweeters so they can be prosecuted, a decision that the social networking company is still evaluating.
Therese Torris's insight:

Interesting article: German judges have also required that Twitter deleted pro-nazi accounts. End of hoster priviledge of not being accountable for content?

Quite critical issue as Twitter's new video service is already showing pornographic content that violated Twitter's guidelines  http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57566074-93/pornographic-video-clips-already-showing-up-on-twitters-vine

TechCrunch | Tumblr On Its Self-Harm Blog Ban: Support Is OK, Glorification Is Not

TechCrunch | Tumblr On Its Self-Harm Blog Ban: Support Is OK, Glorification Is Not | Content Curation Tools | Scoop.it

"last week, ... the company took the bold stance that blogs promoting self-harm, including anorexia, bulimia, self-mutilation and suicide, would no longer be allowed on its network. ... Today, the company ... explain[s] that it’s not banning blogs that are engaged in “discussion, support, encouragement, and documenting the experiences of those dealing with difficult conditions,” only those that are meant to trigger self-harm. But how will Tumblr know which is which?"

Is Twitter Helping Users Get Around Its New Censorship Rules?

Is Twitter Helping Users Get Around Its New Censorship Rules? | Content Curation Tools | Scoop.it

January 27: "Some of the messages Twitter is sending about its new policy on censoring tweets in certain countries seem ambiguous at best." writes ReadWriteWeb

Note: To read a more extensive account in the Wall Street Journal type "Twitter Can Censor by Country" in Google (if you're not a paying subscriber)

The incriminated January 26 post on the Twitter blog http://blog.twitter.com/ is called "Tweets still must flow". It says a.o.: "As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression". ... "if and when we are required to withhold a Tweet in a specific country, we will attempt to let the user know, and we will clearly mark when the content has been withheld."
