If you look at the industry in which content curation tools and services have had the most leeway so far, that would be positively fashion, and, in my impression, by a good margin over the rapidly growing education/learning sector. The fashion industry has embraced digital curation wholeheartedly more than any other sector so far, because of its strong visual element (the same one that has popularized the curation concept thanks to tools like Pinterest), and thanks to the natural inclination that fashion customers have for picking, collecting and sharing their unique preferences and combinations. In this visual collection I have brought together the most interesting examples of curation at work in the world of fashion. Tools, services, communities, brands and products, all working together to filter, aggregate, pick and create relevant "selections" for the infinite number of tribes out there. Curation Tools for Fashion: http://pinterest.com/robingood/curation-tools-for-fashion/ Enjoy, share, suggest new relevant ones to add.

Hi Robin, thanks for pointing out the search engine. I remain convinced that it will be very difficult for Monogram to succeed. There is a huge competition for fashionista's time and retailers' products out there and some of the competitors like Fab.com, The Fancy, Polyvore and many others are pretty compelling. And There are also a lot of retailers that let customers put together lookboks and share them with their community (like the fabulous site net-à-porter)
Robin Good's comment,
May 27, 5:06 PM
Yes Therese, I agree. I am actually glad that Monogram and other small startups are not refraining from attempting to innovate in this apparently crowded space, as I am convinced that there is still plenty of space for many new companies, unless each one of them wants to be the new Pinterest. If they specialize and work on niche audiences and specific use cases I think they may indeed provide a useful service for many. And in the end if they do not try what better suggestion do you have for them? :-)

@wanderingsalsero: Simple. Reel Surfer and Keeeb do not allow you to have a persistant, global playlist. Also Keeeb isn't just focused on playable media.. it's a lot of different things. The "liner notes" that you are referring to are a feature that is coming soon to CratePlayer!

Taking "Fair Use" to the next level... CratePlayer is a web app which allows you to create compilations of video (and audio) clips coming from all your social media accounts as well as from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Soundcloud or from any other website (a standard bookmarklet allows to easily grab video and audio content you find on the web.)
While it is not possible to upload your own files, it is possible to apply a visual cover, a description and relevant tags to each collection, which can be set to "private" or "public" depending on your needs. Furthermore you can invite additional persons to contribute to curate a specific collection.
Final collections can be easily shared on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, via email, or can be embedded on any web site or blog. Delete the scoop?

Hi Steve, Scoop.it is a more mature new curation tool, that offers an audience and extra reach beyond its toolset. OpenTopic is a promising and feature-rich news curation tool but we will need to give it a bit more time before making a reliable evaluation. As I wrote it looks that for those interested not so much in curation, but in saving time and having fresh content on-topic to distirbute across multiple channels this is definitely a possible alternative.

The Israel Longhorn Project will be using “Stockmanship and Range Health”
Stockmanship is the science of cattle herd movement without force or stress on the animals. By understanding the body space of animals we can move cattle calmly and quietly with little effort. As in humans all animals have body space. Each of you has experience this when someone has move to close to you when speaking making you uncomfortable and you move away to your comfortable zone. You learn to stay in your comfortable zone. That is what we will teach to the cattle to stay in their comfortable zone and to moving cattle toward it with “Pressure and Release”. Cattle that are moved this way are “Happy” and appear to enjoy moving. We can use this method to prevent over-grazing and over-resting. This means managing periods that plants are grazed and allowing adequate recovery time for both plants and soils. This is and supports “Holistic” ranching and supports the environment. You can find us at: Israel Longhorn Project; Robin Rosenblatt; 815 Hill St Apt 5; Belmont, Ca 94002; 650.631.9270; robin@longhornproject.org or <http://longhornproject.org> We are a 501c 3 nonprofit. William Moeller Marketing & Design's comment,

Hi Teresa. Curation creates its own set of challenges, and proper attribution to the content source(s) remains a big one, particularly in short form communication (e.g., Twitter). As a content curator, I strive to acknowledge my sources. But what if my nearest source was another curator, who perhaps shared it from another curator. With limited number of characters allowed, we have no choice but to truncate the value stream, occasionally (and unwittingly) leaving out the original author.
Therese Torris's comment,
June 14, 1:19 PM
William, I agree it's not always easy. I still find that some systems are better than others at encouraging attribution. For exemple Scoop.it keeps the link to the original site from which the content was clipped. Thus there is a way to go to the source.
Stephen Dale's curator insight,
June 15, 3:29 AM
I liked the definition of Curation from Tome George (author of the piece): "A content curator is someone who finds, organizes, presents and shares valuable information (content) in many forms, on a specific topic, in a way that provides special context and or a unique engagement with his or her readers. In actuality when done correctly, over time it positions the curator as an expert in his or her respective field and defines their reputation as a thought leader. A good curator will mix curation with his or her own original content, to give interpretations for the express purpose of allowing others to form their own conclusions." Delete the scoop?

By using lists lists and hash tags effectively twitter can be u useful curation tool. Storify another mentioned in this article could also be a useful tool to curate twitter content
Andreas Kuswara's comment,
June 11, 9:22 PM
I supposed twitter can be used or any tool can be used for anything, but some tools are made with certain intended affordance by the creator that would make the tool less effective for certain functions. curation in a way is capturing things void of time (i probably drawing too much from museum), while twitter is fast pace timeline of interactive (or one way) discourse.... they seems to be inherently different.
i'm just automatically sceptical when 'one tool can be use for all' theme appear. but it is an interesting suggestion.
Bonnie Bracey Sutton's comment,

Many people learn one tool and then move on to others. I like to analyze each and use the best features of that particular 2.0 project. I use twitter as a push tool to share info for the most part.
